Need buying advice
I am going to be buying a Rx-7 FD, Im not sure if this is the right place to post this, but sorry if it is. Anyways Im going to be using it as a semi-daily driver about a 1000 miles a month. The FD I am currently looking at is 82k Miles it is a 94 in a Montego Blue. The car was repainted and has had the engine rebuild.
"The car is mechanically sound. There are no issues at all. The engine starts right up. It has good compression. Sequential turbos work as they should. This is my weekend car but I’ve used it daily during the summer putting about 11k miles on it over 4 years. I’ve done a lot of restoration to it since the purchase. Please note that 1994 is an updated version of the car compared to its initial release.
When you buy used RX7 you deal with worn out suspension components. All bushings has been replaced. Brakes completely rebuilt with new seals, pads and complete flush. New shocks installed. When engine was rebuilt - other frequently forgotten parts were replaced as well: All coolant and power steering hoses, all vacuum hoses and gaskets. New clutch was installed. This car is ready to be driven every day.
Modifications
Pretty much every RX7 Gen 3 (FD) on the market will be abused and modified. This car is an exception as it is kept as stock as possible with only reliability/convenience upgrades.
The car has upgraded 17” wheels. These are not aftermarket wheels. The wheels are from Japanese domestic market RX7 circa 99.
The engine is equipped with an aftermarket aluminum radiator. It has improved cooling efficiency.
The intercooler is upgraded to a Blitz part. The original intercooler is included should you prefer to restore the car to its original condition. Installation of this intercooler did not require cutting the airbox or breaking other parts. The intercooler is powder-coated and looks stock. It improves cooling of the compressed air.
There is also an aftermarket down pipe, mid-pipe and high flow catalytic converter installed for better flow, cooling and performance. This modification reduces under the hood temperatures by removing an extra heat source.
The car is equipped with an aftermarket ECU*. The information on the ECU can be found at http://www.srmotorsports.com/sr93ecu.html . The installation includes a wideband O2 sensor. This ECU is wired to the Malfunction Indicator Light. It blinks when excessive detonation or other problems are detected.
The water temperature gauge is modified*. It looks stock but it displays the temperature in linear fashion. This helps you see what is really going on with the cooling water temperature.
Miscellaneous updates
Remote
A Viper wireless start and remote opener is installed. This is a professional installation done by me. It took a couple of days but it was done properly. All connections were soldered and insulated. Solenoids are installed in driver door (passenger door comes with factory one) and the hitch.
Safety switches were wired into the gearbox and the hood to prevent engine start while in gear or with open hood. AC, Heat and Radio will turn on once the car is started from the remote.
The factory alarm is completely functional and arms/disarms the system when operated from the remote.
Audio
There is a custom-built subwoofer with a dedicated custom-built amplifier installed in the trunk. It takes very little space.
Front doors are sound-proofed. Boxed 6.5” speakers with tweeters are installed.
I was planning to do a CarPC project but never got to it. There is a double-din space with simple stereo installed. The radio and the CD player work well. The stereo color matches car’s orange gauges."

ooo, idk about modding the water temp. hopefully it shows in degrees. eh, go and check it out. basically if you like to work on cars and are mechanically inclined, go ahead and get it. price is... ok i guess. I'd think you could get him to come down though if there is anything at all wrong with the car.
you have another car just incase this one breaks down right? also, are you planning on running it in the winter time? if so your a braver man then I am!
OH and the SMIC, no matter how big, is still an interheater. i got one but i dont make believe its a lot better then stock. no boost gauge with a straight out exhaust does concern me though but if the guy does have a power FC in it, that should have a boost guage on it and I guess you can check that compression.

P.S. just remember its a buyers market and you can buy a FD in cali or anywhere else for like 7-9k and have it shipped to you if you want. FD's are some what rare to see but you see them for sale all the time. its not like a 1000hp RHD R34 Skyline. even if it was, they make G35 skylines and there are tuners getting them up to near 1000hp now adays and those are legal here and handle much better! money talks and your the one which has it.

And linearizing the oem temp gauge is fine, it was an old school mod done back in the day.

My only adive is get what you want. Get the color combo you want and nods you want. Read through the FAQ so you know what your dealing with and what to look for. Happy hunting. I was one of those people that bought a Cali car and had it shipped to me.

I bought a CA car as well. I found it on CL and had the owner take it to a local tuner I found here on RX7Club.com. I told the tuner exactly what kind of car I was looking for and he inspected it based on that for $80.
I bought it based upon his inspection and it was spot on. I knew exactly what my car needed before it got home and I am very pleased with my purchase. Shipping wasn't too bad either.
FWIW, my car was almost bone stock. Only mod was an aftermarket radio and he polished the wheels. I am however, doing most of the mods the ad says as well. DP/CAT BACK/Radiator/IC/EMS for reliability.
