need audio help...
do the rx7's without the bose stereo have two speakers behind each seat(above the storage bins)? right now mine just has two useless pockets and i would like to put two speakers in there location especially if i could get stock non-bose grilles and possibly speaker mounting brackets.

I am pretty sure you have to get it made or make it your self. Its not to hard to do a fiber glass or wood set up you can pick up a book on. I think 5 1/4is what I have, but if your system is still bose you will have to use bose speakers or change out the whole system.

5 1/4" in the front
Hi Jones94,
This was custom work done by my audio shop.
Your correct the original front speakers are only 4".
I guess he had to use a bracket that would hold
the 5 1/4" speakers.
Good Luck,

You just make a panel to fill in the space and cut out your hole for whatever size speaker. For this panel I used wood and if your speakers have big magnets you well have to use some spacers in between the door and the wood. Hope you like my blue print I could not find my crayons

The factory speakers behind the seat are 5X7's if you modify the factory bracket you can squeeze a 6X9 in there. The grills and brackets are very sought after items and if your quick and lucky enough can be found in the parts for sale section for 3rd. gens. the grills can be bought from the dealer and run around 25 to 30 bucks a piece not sure about the brackets. (check with Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda)

Unless it's really trashed, the original Bose system is pretty nice and worth restoring to its original quality. I couldn't believe the sound after rebuilding the amps all around! (my speakers were fine). . .just a thought
