CA need assistance getting car going

I have had my fd for a few years now , and blew my previous motor. I just recently got a jdm motor from tiger japan. I installed the motor and trans and plugged in usdm harness and ecu to it. I wanna say for the most part because the car will crank sometimes and it wont for the most part either way it doesn't start i figured i should get it to crank all the time before i move onto trying to get it started , perhaps i missed something and was wondering if there was someone out there with plenty of wiring experience as i don't have much with the fd i would appreciate any input although i know its not much to go on for now, my car is located in anaheim , if anybody is willing to help me out get my car started i would be willing to pay a reasonable amount you can contact or text me at 714-855-7229 thank you

Start with the simplest question and answer. What makes the engine crank? The starter. Make sure that bitch is good before you start tearing into wiring. The brushes go bad over time.

Remember, a JDM motor probably got pulled from a junkyard and potentially hasn't ran for years. Random parts could be bad. Hell, that might be the reason it was in the junkyard.

You obviously got something right because it's at least cranking sometimes. Good luck.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but Tiger Japan has perhaps the worst reputation of all for selling bad motors. Horror story after horror story on these forums. Good luck with your issue.

There are quite a few rotary shops in Cali that you could take it to.

You would probably have better luck posting in the regional section also, there just might be someone down the block from you willing to help.

Compression test.

Personally I'd never put an engine in my car that comes with a big question mark on it. Did the seller guarantee the engine was good? (did you get a compression test printout?)

This

Never assume the "JDM" engine you are getting is good.

Quit knocking him and try to help the poor chap. Sure a JDM motor isn't a great solution to the problem but for some people a $2k+ rebuild is just not an option.

This is the hand that we (forum members) were dealt, lets try to get him up and running agian.

To the compression test question... he needs the starter to crank the motor before he can even find out if it's solid or not. Intermitent starter is first on the list.

The times it doesn't crank does the starter click when you turn the key? Mine would only crank half the time until I made up one of the relays to give full 12v to the solinoid coil.

I'm not knocking him, I think it's solid advice. Opening a used engine and replacing all the internal stuff and checking condition of the irons and rotor housings is cheaper than putting a used engine in anyway.

anyway regarding the starter. It's a good idea to check, but if it worked on his old engine it should be working now.

I recommended the compression test as the first thing to do since its easy to do with the engine in. No sense chasing other issues if it has bad compression.

No doubt it's solid advise. I agree. I wouldn't put it in without knowing the internal condition of a motor. Any motor. Rotors or pistons.

A majority of jdm motors come with starters. If it's been sitting in a yard for the last 5+ years, I would think that an intermittent starter issue is logical for the situation. If you have the starter off the blown motor and you know it's good, I would swap them out just to be sure.

Again, the starter needs to be rotating the engine to make getting compression numbers MUCH easier.
