Question Need advice on the Removal of the secondary oil cooler lines

I searched and cannot find anything for this specific question.

i need to remove the secondary (passenger side) R1 oil cooler & lines my oil cooler and hard lines on that side that were damaged and now i have a hose bypassing the lines, basically it goes from one hard line does a U and into the other like a closed system loop. the hose i have is a super duper high strength hose made for hydraulics or what not but i do not trust it from blowing out on long trips or high heat situations. It gets pretty hard from the oil pressure.

i will be driving it to my friends garage who has a pit and a lift (hopefully it will work on one of em this car is to dam low) and i want to get under there and remove the damaged hard lines that connect to the passenger side oil cooler, so i have just the one oil cooler like a base stock model.

So here is my question
How do i go about doing that? basically in the most simple terms i can think of is everything there to do just that? could any one who has stock dual oil coolers remove one side and bolt it up so just the drivers side functions with out the secondary lines or are other lines/ bolts required?

I know this may be hard to understand or i might just be making this more difficult then it is but i have searched and asked shops and come up with nothing. any how tos, links, pics, vids or replys will help thanks.

Remove undertray, remove IC, remove intake, remove battery and remove the pass side headlight cover and headlight shroud. A 23mm wrench will be needed and some patience. Its not difficult to do, just a little bit of effort to wiggle the hard line out once everything is freed up.

DJ pretty much laid it out for you. Once you get under there, it will be pretty straight forward.

On that note, why not just purchase a new line to replace the damaged OEM. Better yet, replace all the OEM with braided and AN fittings. You have an R1, and reverting to a single oil cooler is definitely a downgrade. Obviously, I don't know the situation, what type of damage was involved, or your budget. Just some suggestions.

If you want a full parts list to replace the OEM lines with braided/AN fittings, just PM me.

Thanks guys, im still looking for passenger side oil cooler (was damaged too) and lines but for now i will most likely need to delete until summer time. so from what i gather i can get in there remove the secondary lines and hook up the drivers side lines straight to the block with the existing lines that are there and drive away? no need to find oem single cooler lines?

No No.... The lines are different. FSM shows the difference. If I remember correct, there is a section you will need from a single cooler car. It's been awhile since I messed with stock lines.

Thanks for the link, i was afraid of that but i think i may have the needed hard line but i cant find a picture or description in the manuals does any one have a pic of what the line looks like that is needed.

From what i can tell the line that goes from the oil filter housing to the drivers side oil cooler stays put i just need a new line from the cooler that connects to the front of the block? will any more holes need to be plugged or does dual oil coolers use the same inlet/outlet on the motor? will the bolts that go into the block work for both applications?

I just pulled mine a few weeks ago if you are trying to remove the oil cooler from the lines in my situation there was a zap strap around a horseshoe clamp where the lines were connected to the coolers

Ok so i tried doing this myself today, and after i got pretty deep in i noticed i don't have any size tools close to what is needed to get the lines of the cooler or the bango bolt on the block anyone know what size wrench i need for these two(in red)?

Also i noticed the quick disconnect works at certain parts of the lines but at the actual connection to the oil cooler both the inlet and outlet house has the quick disconnect C type clip but when i undid one there it did not feel like it would disconnect i pulled on it and it didn't do anything are these suppose to disconnect also (in yellow)?

Yep, the connections to the oil coolers are quick disconnects. You might need to twist the hose some to get it to break loose. Removing the fitting on the oil cooler most likely won't help you, you have to undo the quick disconnects. It's the same mechanism as the other quick disconnects in the oil cooler lines.

The large banjo bolt on the front cover is a 23mm nut, go get a 23mm wrench and you'll be done with that.

Also, when you DO disconnect the oil coolers, have an oil pan handy, you'll get a good amount of oil dripping out.

Thank you that helped alot, i got them out today and hooked up the new lines haven't started it yet to check for leaks because it started raining. do you know the torque needed for the banjo bolt on the front cover i think i got it tight but its hard to get in there. also i lost track and have been looking to make sure i routed the lines correctly but cant find a picture for correct routing does the line that comes from the filter housing go to the right inlet nearest the thermostat? and the line that goes to the front cover banjo go to the other inlet on the left furthest from the engine?

Standing in front of the car.

Filter line goes to the right port on the back side of the cooler.
Front cover line goes to the left port on the back side of the cooler.

You can almost see it from the picture you posted, without your red markings.
