Need advice on purchasing a short shift kit
I am tired of missing third gear, what are the pros and cons of the short shift kits that are available? Are the kits complete with everything or are there any adaptors that are needed as well? And finally what kits would you recommend?

The short shifter has to one of the best mods to do on an FD. The FD shifter is definitely a POS. The throws are so much shorter and you really don't have to worry about missing 3rd gear anymore. I have the Pettit Racing's short shifter and I absolutely love it. I highly recommend this short shifter. There are so many great things about a short shifter As for the cons, I can only think of one thing, and that is it's a little expensive.

I just took my B&M off and putting it up for $125+shipping. PM me if interested. No adaptor needed, direct stock replacement. Defintely an ideal mod for the RX7.

Any of the short shifters increase shifting effort due to moving the fulcrum point, and, IMO, do very little about the missing 3rd gear problem. An engine torque brace better addresses the latter, or, as suggested, more practice.
Which is the best shifter is a very subjective issue. I've had several Mazdatrix units; two of them rattled terribly, one was as quiet as can be. I had a Mazdaspeed unit that was great. I also had a B&M (also have a B&M unit on my GT3) that was a pos, IMO, and now have a C's unit in my recently purchased '94. Haven't put enough miles on it to make a full evaluation, but seems to be OK.

IMO short shifters do help with missing third gear, don't get me wrong there is no substitute for practice but the springs in the short shifter that return it to the upright position deff help with shifting. As to the clunking feeling it is true that u can feel the gates, but I prefer that feeling. I have a gotham racing short shifter and it works fine for me. I have heard that replacing the ball bearing at the bottom of the sifter fixes the rattle.
