Today, while going over photos of my transmission rebuild, I realized I made a preventible mistake. Nothing dangerous, but still I want to fix it before I thrash the car.


Before spring comes, I'm going to drop the tranny and this time around there are a couple of transmission-specific SSTs I want to use.

I would like to borrow/rent for a few days, and pay shipping both ways. Or buy them outright if the price is decent.

I think you'll have a hard time finding someone with any tranny SST's. I'm doing good - I have the Mazda pilot bearing puller!

The big tool you need for tranny work I know is the long-jaw puller, which is relatively easy to fabricate. Might want to figure out a way to fab the tool you need. Or, see how much the tool would cost - it's hard to say if it's pricey or not.

I've got a call into Kowa Seiki for prices on a few - mostly I'm interested in the c-clip installer for the 5/R shift rod. It was a bugger to do with screwdrivers and needlenose pliers. It took 4 hands and some cursing.

I have all the tools I made from doing the tranny the first time. Unfortunately I installed a clutch sleeve backwards and I just noticed it today looking at the pictures as I was finishing the writeup. The car runs ok, but 2nd is still a little clunky and I dont' think it can handle full torque until it's fixed.

I know I've heard of a person getting a whole stash of SSTs from a closed dealership - that would be an ungodly hookup - I guess I'm dreaming.

Good luck with it! Have you talked to Ray Crowe to see how much he could get one for? Dunno if it's better to go through him or Kowa Seiki. Might also want to see if someone with a Mazdacomp membership could get it - I got my pilot bearing tool from Mazdacomp back when I was a member .
