Name that exhaust sputter....

Past month or two I noticed some slight sputter coming out of the exhaust. As of this past week there is noticeably louder exhaust type sputter coming from the turbo/manifold area, seems to be right near the bottom of where the DP would be but hard to tell. My car is completely stock so everything is still covered in heat shields etc.. The turbos are definitely much louder now and at low rpms it sounds likes like something is cracked due to the sputter. Still have a lot to learn about FDs and I cant visibly see anything so instead of taking it straight to someone or ripping things apart myself thought I would try and get some ideas from peeps. When I took it on the highway it seemed fine but there was one occasion when it seemed as if I couldnt tell whether both turbos were boosting properly.

Thanks

Do you have a boost gauge? You should see a boost pattern of 10-8-10.

The noise could be and exhaust leak, you may need to dig a little deeper.

No boost gauge as of yet, definitely needed though. There is just so much in that area I fear something turbo related, but the sounds just have me thinking its exhaust, but not sure which part.

If there is an exhaust leak you maybe able to see some black soot in the area that it is leaking.

It's probably just an exhaust leak. If you're worried about it, take it to a decent exhaust shop or rotary shop. You might want to invest in a new turbo/downpipe gasket.

Ok I should say its more then a sputter haha, its much worse then yesterday. Whatever it is sounds completely open, here is a link to a vid I took just for audio reference, first in the bay by the manifold then down underneath near the bottom of the DP area:

or

http://home.comcast.net/~l.kniewel/engine.avi

Again its stock, so it went from peace and quiet to sounding like my friends mr2 with crazy dp and N1. I have no way of really seeing anything unless I take it apart, and dont have an access to a lift.

Thanks

I tried to give a few more closer looks under some good light and the more i listen it seems like a cracked manifold or blown out gasket? just sounds so much like an open header or something.

HAHA, yea thats oil, but its from a spill that took place during a change. Kitty littered it a little bit ago. It does leak though, not severe but it does leak.

Problem solved, hopefully. Today I was able to see with a flashlight that the dp is disconnected about a 1/4 inch. Bolts still intact and gasket looks good, top two bolts are nice and loose, kind of hard to get to and I cant really see the bottom half so will probably just have my local shop fix it for me monday.
