My Trip Back From GothamRacing – MPG and Misc.

I finally was able to pick up my white FD from GothanRacing on 9-30-06.

Steve picked me up at the airport. I had a stage III street port built, his GR67 turbo kit with custom headers, the transmission completely rebuilt and many many other items fixed that I did not know existed. I think the repair costs more than the car is worth.

Steve will be coming to Twin Cities next week to dyno tune about 10 RX-7s including mine and 3 of the 4 20Bs in the state. It will be a nice cool day for dyno tuning. Probably low 45F and high 65F degrees.

Kan set it up to drive back to MN to break it in (1000 miles to MN). He set it up with no boost and I ran 87 octane all the way back. No traffic except for the Blue Angel’s airplane show and a big car show, which slowed me down for the first leg of the trip. I got 19.1 MPG on that bad leg. Took 30 minutes to go three miles in the traffic jam.

We pumped the tires up to 40lbs and I was on my way. I left at 6:00pm. I arrived in home at 9:30am Sunday. I was on cruise control all the way and just went the posted speed which was 70mph 95% of the way back.

I averaged 22.5 mpg and averaged 66.8 mph. The last leg was 340 miles and I averaged 24.4 MPG. Commander air temp was 16C – 23C and water temp was 85C governed by thermostat. Best trip I have ever made and I made three of these last year. Gas for 87 octane ranged from $1.99 to $2.19 a gallon. I used 43.5 gallons of fuel.

I’m hoping to get 500+rwhp at 22psi boost with 110 octane race gas. Pump gas will be 15psi and I don’t know what he expects to get. I hope it’s a good number as this is what I will be running 95% of the time.

Thanx,

Ken

Sounds like the car is running great so far Ken . I'm sure you'll exceed 400 rwhp at 15 psi. Did you opt for the dual bb setup or plain bearing?

Hey Ken,

No big story with snow like last time from KD Rotary? Do you have Racelogic traction control on this car? Also how about an update on your thoughts on traction control. Do you still have the other car? Good luck with this one, sounds like a nice setup.

This car has traction control and I like it alot. Besides performance it might save a crash and injury. High performance cars can be a handful and get out of control.

I have the other FD and will sell it as I can't afford one FD let alone two.

Hey Ken, is this the Racelogic traction control you're referring to? If so, who set it up for ya? Gotham? Got any more info about it? There's VERY little first hand feedback about it on this forum...

Thanks!

KD Rotary installed it a few years ago. There was a group buy on the forum and about 90 units were purchased. Lots by RX-7s and some by Viper and Supra owners.

I love it.

Yea I remember that group buy, but still, very few ppl every actually installed them, and even fewer posted their feedback about it after it was installed.

Thanks

I suppose I could use my Vericom computer or Datalogit logs to do some runs with traction control on and off and see what's up.

My car will be tuned this weekend.

I think Kan builds motors and tunes cars. He's very good at what he does. But I doubt he does very much on your car. The peole he hires does most of that and sometimes they are not up to his standards. I picked my car and wanted my replacement parts back. I replaced a Centerforce clutch with about 5k miles on it. It was only good for 400hp and I was expecting to get much more than that so I upgraded to a Spec 3 clutch good for 500+rwhp.

Well when I went to put up the the cluitch all they had was the disc, the pressure plate was scrapped. I asked were that guy was to make sure he really tossed it. He was no linger working there.

So good shops can hire incompetent people.
