RE Amemiya short shifter!
#4
i got that shifter when i went to amemiya's shop in japan. honestly, i kind of wish i didnt get it. it is good quality, and it does shorten the shift, but it is pretty long for a short shifter. i think that because it is a d1 shifter might be the reason for the legnth. maybe easier to grab and shift, real racers have long sticks? haha and its kind of expensive, but if i were getting a deal on it like im sure you will, i would probably consider it. i paid full price of 22000yen (about 200 bucks at the time)

There was a thread a while ago showing the RE Amemiya shifter as basically nothing more than a slightly cut down version of the stock shifer (i.e. the pivot location was still the same).
What you need to decide is how much shifting reduction you want. If you only want a little, the RE will do just that and retain the stock smoothness. The B&M and copies are about in the middle (but with some notchiness) and then the Pettit/Mazdaspeed/RX-7Store shifter being about the most reduction (but overall smoother than teh B&M copies).

I had the B&M replica. It was a bit notchy and it clicked into gear which was good and bad. If you are bad at shifting then the click may be useful. On my CRX I have DC-Sports short throw and it's too short. Yes, I said too short. The reason is the throw is so short, there is no way I can match the speed with the clutch pedal when racing. I know hydrolic clutch is alot softer, so maybe someone else can say so or not but unless you have one of those on/off type clutches then a very short throw can make things worse. I have the RE-A shifter now and as goldilocs said "it's just right". I can't compare it to Mazdaspeed as I haven't tried one but it's nicer then stock for shure.

I've felt a mazdaspeed (which I own), a b&m, and an RE. The RE feels just like stock. If you just need a stock replacement and don't really want the short throws, get a RE. Mazdaspeed and B&M are equally as short imo, but B&M is more notchy, whereas Mazdaspeed is smoother. Just depends on what you like.
