My sunroof whistles with everything closed...

I finally figured it out! Don't know how to fix it, but I know what it is. This has been happening since I've owned the car it drives me nuts.

So, with both windows closed up and the sunroof closed all the way, at anywhere between 70 - 90 mph, it whistles. If I crack a window or the roof, it goes away.

What would be the best way to fix that?

I normally drive with the roof cracked anyway, but if I'm on the phone (with my bluetooth headset), I'd like to close it to keep the road noise down.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I was thinking that too, but the car only has 30k mile on it and it has always been in the garage and the molding look and feel great.

While it may feel and look great, it's obviously not sealing properly if you are getting wind noise.

It's still 14 years old. Over time, the rubber compresses, and doesn't keep the same pressure on the sunroof. Time to replace the molding.

You know mine did this and I found 2 solutions....

1. The sunroof was wiggling a bolt out that held it on track. When I tightened it up it killed most of the wind noise (mine was doing it way worse than yours).

2. I close the sun roof all the way then hit open for just a milisecond. Dont ask why, but that would seal it right up. If it was 100% closed Id get wind noise. But 100% close and then 2% back open and it'd be just where it needed to be. Worth a shot if you dont wanna fork over the big bucks for new rubber.

My sunroof used to make a grinding noise if i held the button till it closed all the way so i got used to timing it. Well, I must have timed it perfectly once and for some reason there was no wind noise all of a sudden. I hit close on it and I heard the motor wirr for a second, then go to its grinding. Didnt take long to figure out what I had done after that. It sounds totaly crazy, but it seriously fixed the wind noise. At speeds of 120+ it breaks the seal though. And then I have to open the sunroof, close it, and open it 2% again.

Yeah, the weather stripping is aged 14 years. I would think something like this would have little to do with mileage on the car.

My sunroof does the same thing at 120. The best way I’ve found to fix it is not go 120. = )

Thanks for all the responses!!! I'll check all the bolts and make sure it's all tight. How much is new rubber and how hard is it to replace?

(and I can't help but go 120 every once in a while)
