my story on how mazda dealer ships treat your car when your gone...poor rx7s
i bought me a 93 rx7 tt bone stock cause i wanted to do stuff i wanted to not start off on where some one left off anyway me not knowing a thing about rotarys just how to spell it. but i always loved the way the rx7s look and always wanted one..2 days after i bought it the clutch went out...ya ya laugh at me i know im dumb....so i took it to a mazda dealer to get a new one put in cause i live in a redneck town and nobody knows how to work on one or ever heard of one the only thing they can fix is trucks and tractors . and while it was up there i ask them to just give it alook over to make sure everthing was ok and working good...big mistake. so i got it back and they said they checked for vac. leaks and all that good stuff and i was all oookk so about 7ms go by before i learn enough and worked on it enough to know what i was doing and that i really needed to get gauges and i got a boost and oil gauge and hooked them up and what do u know i been only haveing 2 pounds of boost since i got it and i didnt know i never had a fast car or know how it should of felt when u got on it so i had major boost leak somewhere and keep in mind it ran like it was running when i took it to the dealer and they said everthing was fine and dandy..so me and one of friends started to try to find the leak and the when when started to check the stock intercooler it wouldnt hold psi .we made a home boost pump tester i guess u could call it.. so we took of the stock s rubber pos hoses and the s hose comeing from the bottom a clean slice all the way down it but the rings that go around wasnt cut...mmmmm?....kinda weird..and we look inside the intercooler it self and guess what two shop rags was stuff inside the intercooler that had the mazda dealers name on it.....i guess they had tried to fix the leak hoping the rags would make psi go up i guess or some stupid **** like that..so think about who u let work on your car if you cant do it cause i learned the hard way ..i cant count the hours i spent trying to frind the problem on line bugging people, asking ?s ,cause they said everthing was fine and dandy.

wow. sorry man. Your best friends will be the shop manuals found free here on the forum archives and the forum itself. Between those two you will be able to diagnose/fix most everything on your car. Gives you great excuse to buy new tools as you go AND to learn much more about your car.
My advice would be to go slow with mods, start with reliability first and making sure your car is sound before getting to the go fast mods.
If your car was performing as bad as you say, wait until you get it back to stock levels. Your car is going to feel like a rocket. Problem is you get used to it and then think its "slow". Then the mods come.
Hang in there, you'll get it and most all of us have been through your experience or something similar.

So I think I can help prevent others from having their head explode.
He bought a stock Rx7
Took it to a dealer to have it looked over and new clutch (don't ask me why, it's complicated)
They said it was ok
He found out that it was under-boosting
Took off the IC piping and found dealership rags stuffed in the I/C to up PSI.
Dealership sucks
You're welcome. And seriously man, double negatives?!?

sorry to hear about your troubles bro, but it's a good thing because it got you to learn a lil bit on your own about your new toy. don't worry, you will learn more than you really wanted after buying one of these cars. don't worry about all the grammar haters, they don't have anyone else to pick on.
good luck

If English is the poster's second language, I'll beat through it as best I can. But if not, this isn't texting on a phone. A little time and consideration for the reader might make the difference for him someday.

Need for coherent posts? He's just relating a story about his dealership experience this time. But what if he needs to describe a problem and/or needs a question answered?

Agreed but there shouldn't be multiple posts telling this guy to fix his grammar. Isn't one enough? I'm sure he got the message.

Your right and we're still off-topic.
To the OP: I think it's almost universal here that dealerships aren't the place to take your car. This car was only imported for 3 model years, the last being over 15 years ago. And precious little translates from the RX8. Many technicians were still in grade school the last time an FD was brought into the service bay at most dealerships.
Look for the rotary specialty shop closest to you and search here to referrals. But ultimately, you'll need to deal with many things on your own unless you've got deep pockets.

Back on topic...
I think if you take the time to troubleshoot and learn about your car you will be pleasantly surprised about how easy it really is to work on. Most things will not be outside of your realm to diagnose/fix/upgrade. Just take care in doing so and go slowly.
There is a list of shops in the SE forum section. There are quite a few in FL if you need to make the drive.

My first experience with taking my FD to a dealer was also my last.
Shortly after buying it several years ago, I installed a boost gauge and could see that the second turbo was not kicking in.
Took it to the dealer, they replaced a few easy to replace parts in the intake system, and charged my $900. Yeah, you read that right.
Still no boost. I go back and talk to the service manager, and he told me "it's supposed to work that way".
On the second trip I handed him the rag and the screwdriver that I found under my hood.
And informed him that the primary turbo hose had been left disconnected.
Not so much as a "sorry".
What an idiot. Me too for nor pursuing it further.
This was at Herzog-Meier in Beaverton Oregon for those of you familiar with the place.
The irony is that it is one of the best places to go for an alignment, as they have a tech there that knows his stuff and will align they way you ask him to.
My introduction to working on the FD came on June 15th 2001 when I began my first project on the car - replacing all the solenoid hoses. Then there was boost.
Well, after I lubed the acuators that had apparently been little used and were stuck.
How do I remember the date? Because I had to use the car to get to work the following Monday June 18th, first day on a new job.

I won the lottery on my dealership story. A long time ago in this galaxy, I made an appointment to check out my future ride but the seller canceled because it wouldn't start. He took it to the dealership in which they promptly told him that "the backfire from the exhaust" blew the engine. As I was researching then (BIG props to RX-7 lemon site and Rob's site back then), it occurred to me that something didn't sound right. The seller decided to cut his asking price by 70%!! And I talked him down another 5%! (I won't throw out real numbers...it'll just upset you.) Even with a new engine I would still save a few bucks if it was just that I thought. It was still a risk but I bought it as is and had it towed to a local specialist......
.......four spark plugs and tires later.....and the rest, as they say, is history!!
Lessons learned: never ask the dealership to troubleshoot RX problems and only slightly less known is, of course, never get into a land war in Asia.
(In defense of the seller, he was just a middle-man who inherited the car so he knew nothing about them.)

Bought my car new in 1994 and learned never to take it to the dealer after two trips.
Trip number one: Me - "My sunroof liner is a little loose and squeaks." The dealer - "Got you all set up and put your receipt in the glove box". Me - Hopped in the car and hit a bump leaving the dealer. Sunroof headliner falls on my head. Turn right around and reach to grab the receipt out of the glove box. The entire glove box falls off.
Trip number two: Me - "It's due for its routine maintenance and would you flush the coolant?" Dealer - "No problems, you are all set. Here's your insane bill!" Me - Hopped in car and made it maybe a few miles and the coolant light comes on. Pull into the parking garage with coolant gushing out of the car because the nimrod mechanics snapped the neck off of my coolant reservoir.
Lesson - Never go to a dealership!
