Hey guys need some help on this.
i can be driving normal under WOT, and i look down and the tach reads 6000 rpms, and i go WHAT THE!!! and when i look away its back down to 3000 when im cruzin, it will go back to normal rpms when i downshift to 4th and back to 5th. can someone help me with this. Today really has me worried becuase it jumped to 7500 rpms. Is this what they call boost spike? just to give you some info right now im at 126,789 OEM miles. so any good help would be loved.

 

More info? Does the tach bounce around without regard to rpm? Is your clutch slipping?

 

hey RES yes it does bounce, when im cruzzing doing about 70mph i look down and the tach is way over at the 600 rpm range, when it was just at 3500rpm, no the clutch is not slippin when at idle it does bounce from 1000 rpm to 1200 rpms

 

can anybody help i mean i dont know what else to tell you other than what i wrote, what could be the cause im sure that im not the only one that this has happend to.

A lot of rx7s tachs do this over time. Just use the search bar at the top and you will find 20 threads on the same subject.

 

RX7what is correct. Mine bounces as well on occasion. Rumor has it that there is a weak solder joint in the cluster that cuases this.
