Unhappy my r1 wing is stuck on.....

ok so yesterday i go to take my stock r1 wing off to soon be replaced with a 99 spec wing. all the screws came out from the two outer ends. but when i got to the 10mm nut where it holds inner sides of the wing one of them stripped. now i wish it was just the nut that stripped but no the nut is fine it just spins with the thread connected to the wing. i have no idea how to get this off ive tried pliers , tap wreches nothing will hold the thread from spinning with the nut. has this happend to anyone before? also if anyone could give me some ideas to get this off i would greatly appreciate it. ill post a pic on my site to show what i mean.

The bolt is supposed to be held in place inside the wing. Sounds like someone overtightened it, and broke the plastic that keeps the bolt from turning. You will have to do some cutting to remove it. A dremmel with a cutting blade would be my first choice. If the cutting blade wont fit, you could try grinding the nut off with a tungsten-carbide bit in your Dremmel.

Good luck

I just took mine off. Use an impact wrench, and just spin it quickly while you apply upward pressure. The spinning of the stud will heat up the plastic and melt it out.

The stud fix is easy when your done, just clean up the melted hole with a dremel or drill and use 2-part epoxy to reattach the stud.

Done.

Jeff,

Typically, a stud like this one will have a squared end to hold it in place inside the wing. Does this one have a squared end? If so, how large is it? ..... Is the diagonal measurement equal to the diameter of the stud? If the squared end is larger than the diameter of the stud, it seems like it would damage the wing to remove it.

It does damage the wing but it is in a place where it is not visible. Epoxy reattaches the stud w/squared end to the wing.

well i tried turbojeff's idea and it worked, but only the nut wound up coming off. it didnt melt the plastic or the stud off the wing. i guess it must have locked back up.. regardless wing is off and all cleaned up now ready for 99 spec. thanks again to all who responded.
