The drivers seat is need of some work on the side bolster, so I need to do something. Its the only crappy looking thing on the car now..except the engine bay, but I will be starting that project when I get back from SEMA.

Donny,
I re - read this and thought that when I begin looking for another RX7 I won't take color into consideration and do the exact same full repaint as yourself, but have someone else paint it, never painted a car before. Maybe I could do the prepping tho.
How hard was diassembly of everything and keeping track of what goes where? I was thinking zip loc bags labeled or something. What was your process?
Any thoughts or opinions on the whole thing would be great.

Great job!
It makes me happy to see an RX-7 go through those stages. Thanks to people like you we can keep this car alive for many years to come, unlike some people who junk them. Great job! I think you inspire many people because I myself feel like painting my car now haha.

To make the plate I first cut out a piece of aluminum sheet metal, maybe 10gauge or so. I then enlarged the rear RX7 emblem on a photo copier until I reached a good size for the plate. I then traced that copy onto some sticky vinyl and then centered that on the aluminum plate and took a razor blade and carefully traced around the "RX7" and then peeled everything else off. I then simply scuffed the rest of the aluminum plate and painted it black. Then just peel off the RX7 vinyl and you have your plate. I went ahead and clear coated over the top of the plate after I painted it so that it would last longer.
I used a black permanent marker to delete the lines, one of the fine point ones. You have to have a steady hand and only cover the white. I cannot tell on mine unless the sun is directly hitting the gauges, which I think has happened once, and even then the gauges still look factory. No one would ever know, if they didnt know what they looked like before.
