Question My possible secondary boost problem fix...Expert opinions please

Ok I have had my engine rebuilt around Christmas and had my vacuum hoses done at the same time. I have had a couple of small problems that have involved cracked couplings and a couple of hoses that have popped off but nothing serious. Now the only problem that seems to be popping up is that sometimes when I run the car hard the secondar boost will come up and other times it won't. When it does transition sometimes it seem slow. The other times when it doesn't I only get around 4 psi or so. I have checked and replaced all the old check valves and made sure all vacuum hoses are connected and I am still having the problem. From doing a search on the forum and on robonittes(sp) site and I have come to the conclusion that I am looking at a problem with my pre-control solenoid. I am probably going to replace it if I can hang the cost.

So what do the Rotary Experts here on the board think? Am I on the right track? Thanks for all your help in advance.

It sounds like you're on the right track. Since it's an intermittent problem, it's likely that it's one of the soleoids. I had a similar problem where after the transition sometimes boost would bleed off to 1-2 psi at redline. Other times I wouldn't have any problems. I took the easy way out and went non-sequential. Good luck.

Check the turbo control acutuator arm, it might have fell off of the door. Just jack up the car and see if it's still connected.

You can test the solenoids.... that might be better than replacing them all only to find out it wasnt the problem. That does sound like the best place to start though.

doesn't sound like turbo precontrol at all. SOund smore like chareg relief or tubro control actuator. check those two and there respective selenoids and wiring.

Ok here is an update. I went up to Rotorsports Racing where the motor was rebuilt and he is helping me trouble-shoot the problem.(Good people if you ever need help) We changed out the precontrol solenoid and checked the rod on the turbo control actuator. No luck yet. I am dropping it off up there tomorrow and he is going to trouble-shoot it in depth. He is fiddling with the idea of the charge relief valve and he said that he will check the turbo control actuator after that. I will keep you all informed considering these secondary boost problems are pesky and hard to fix sometimes.
