My Pioneer LCD's Problem.

Hi guys.

firstly my apologies if this is in the wrong section.

I fitted a Pioneer 7500II DVD unit to my car about 3 years ago (although the cars only had little usage)

Anyway something weird has started happening, when I accelerate, the screen image starts to flicker and break up, just like bad reception on a tv.

This is really odd, there is no static or break up through the speakers, no loss of power to the rest of the system. Which makes me think that earthing is not a problem.

The hideaway unit is behind the storage units, could it be getting too hot?

Lastly, I recently fitted a complete sports ST/ST exhaust system, could there be an earthing problem there? I know there's an earthing strap to exhaust.

There are two amps in the boot, no problem there.

I'm just wondering if anyone might have any idea what on earth is going on?!!!

Could it be the alternator? It's a polished item, but was in real rubbish condition when I recieved it. Had to clean it up. But this was about four years ago.

The alternator does get extremely hot after about 3 or 4 minutes of running, could the bearrings be shot?

Cheers guys.

Have you checked if its the actual unit that has the problem? Maybe the sudden change in acceleration makes the connection from the unit to the LCD loosen up a little bit. Does this problem happen when you rev from a standstill?

No it doesn't happen when revving from a standstill, although I'll double check just to make sure.

The exhaust is of course much louder when revving under load (while driving)

It's more noticable when viewing the Vehicle Dynamics Processor (which is in the boot). Maybe the plug is coming loose and messing with the display.

Long day at work today, crawling in the back of the car wasn't really what I wanted to do today! lol

Cheers supernaut, any other ideas let me know.

I'm thinking the same thing, the connection between the deck and the screen is a little loose and when you accelerate it makes the screen move enough to make it cut in and out. That would explain why the sound doesn't cut out. The ribbon curcuits are also notorius for cracking from being bent and folded repeatedly.

Ribbon cables wear out. Sounds like this is your culprit.

And I think this should go in the audio section.
