Talking My new parts car!! All Charred!

I just went and picked this up this morning. I got it for a good deal. The Rx was unfortunately caught in a garage fire and the owner did not have insurance on the thing so it was a total loss for him. Only area that actually survived the fire was the engine bay and bottom chassis, everything else was scorched as you can see. The owner was still able to start it up. It's got a large street port with 3mm apex seals and only 1800 miles on the rebuild. It's got the GT35r dual ball bearing turbo still on there with 3 inch exhaust. He said on a conservative tune it made 360ish at 14 lbs of boost. So Im gonna pull the motor out and put it in my RX7 cause I blew mine about a month ago.

All in all, the chassis is still very much intact. Underneath is spotless with no rust or fire damage. The fire only got the outside and interior. Nothing in the interior is good to use. Every plastic piece and trim possible is in some deformed mutilated shape. The bad thing is that this baby was an R1. It had the nice suede seats and all black interior too.

After I finish taking out the motor and prepping it and installing it in mine, I'm gonna inspect the chassis and tear it apart to see if it's worth rebuilding. If I do pursue rebuilding the car it will be a full on from the ground up restoration because I can't bear to see one of these cars go to the crusher.

I'll add up more pics soon when I have time to start dismantling the motor and interior.

*this is my first time posting with pics so I'm not sure if I did it right*

even if it would take 20 years to slowly rebuild the car because of money or time, i would do it.. good luck with it.

If she starts and runs, then it shouldn't be too bad to be honest. I hope you have better taste in bodykits than the previous owner .

Good luck with it!

Always like to see a car come back from the dead. Enjoy the motor also, sounds like a pretty sweet deal.

Thanks guys for the input. Well today at work I didn't have much to do at the shop so I had time to start taking things apart. But first here are some pics of the engine before I took it out today.

Here are some exterior and interior shots. I took off that god awful Cwest Bodykit and found out that the fire had not even touch what was underneath.

..turns easily by hand. I should be able to take everything off tomorrow and get it down to the bare shortblock. Hopefully I will get my car back and running within the next day or two.

that is sooo SAD

at least if you rebuild it as a track car, you dont have to worry about replacing the interior.

Glad to see you are rebuilding the 7. Here is the original thread from the previous owner.

^ so I guess the previous owner maybe bought it back from the insurance but spent the $$ instead of fixing the car? or maybe there was no insurance $$ and he got screwed by our wonderful legal system ...

It may just be smoke and soot on the motor, but it looks like it could have gotten hot. I would be real concerned about the coolant seals in the block. Hopefully, the seals still have integrity.
