My new headlight setup - pics

I never liked the stock headlights for the funny look, a big cover blocking your view, and the lack of light output. I do like the stock look when they're down though. Now I can't afford the sleek light kits right now (someday) so for now I used some CATZ driving and fog lights in combo with the "sleepy eye" configuration and took some pics. The pics are a little slanted because the camera was sitting on top the car. Also, they really don't do the light justice. The light output is much better but still not HID good. Anyway, critics welcome.

I did put upgraded bulbs in but this new setup is much better. I know many don't care for the sleepy look though, but, I don't care for some things other do too. Thanx for the comment though.

I also don't like the sleepy eye look, but it's your car. At least you solved your lighting issue though.

The reflector / projector lights I'm using as my driving lights have a lazor sharp cut off both on the side and top. I can aim them high but without putting it in everyone elses eyes. Aren't you selling your car now rzograbian?

kinda.... i have 3 weeks to decide... i want 18k firm the way it sits... im not going to budge though.... i dont NEED to sell it but in 3 weeks, there is a single turbo widebody going for sale privatly and i really liked it.... if i sell this at 18, i will buy that one but if not, its still fine... so unless someone wants to give me 18, i will sell.. if not, then im keeping it.

also, i put close to $10k this year alone!! (jan-now)

also, your car looks nice!! i would take the shroud off though and make one to cover everything... then, sell it to me

im too lazy to make one!

Curious what you used to obtain the sleepy eye look. Did you modify the motors or buy/make an electronic regulator?

Headlight motor mod. And I wouldn't say sleepy eyes are becoming a fad, especially with so many disinterested readers. I'm not into the drift thing. This was all about function.

The highbeams are just a PIAA foglight. The lowbeams are some HELLA HID driving lights. Go to my thread in the ext/int section and I have the website that sells them.

Nice.

Do you have pics and a write up on how to mount aftermarket lights in pop-up housings? And how did you get the lights to partially open ?

Well, I don't know how rzograbian did his but I pulled ther motor out, opened it up and used some electrical tap to cover a portion of the outside contact rail. (The more you cover, the lower they go up.) The lights are then mounted to a piece of metal I attached to the light housing. That's it. Wiring is easy, choosing the lights was harder. The Hella HID are really nice but $700 or so!!! I spent $250 in all for three new sets of CATZ lights from Ebay and light output is very good. There is a really good write-up though that has a lot more on the headlight mod. I don't need to write-up anything else.

hey jeff,
great job, definitely streamlines the front of the car. what kind of current draw do these new lights have? any fusing issues? do they put out more heat?

i think ive finally got a possible solution for the sleek custom light setup im formulating a design for - the main issue being the acrylic lens covers shaping and forming. im open for suggestions on what type of lights to use.

sure would like to see a sleek light setup in person to resolve some other issues im addressing for my design. do you know of anyone in the seattle, everett area that has a setup on their car i can check out.

cya,
chuck

Well chuck, they are standard 55w and heat is normal for small lights like this. Can't wait to see your sleek setup. As for lights, there are so many different models out there I wouldn't know. The Hella 90mm with HID lights? Otherwise, I don't know anyone.
