my introduction (no tuner best ecu upgrade fo me)

hi everyone im new to this online community i just purchased a 1995 rx7 and it is now in the process of being shipped to my house. i have been reading up on this site for a little while now and have searched a bit (loads if info). i just want to be sure of things before i start spending money. its already got the reliability mods done to it , and has a after market exhaust. the question that i have is what ecu should i run if i had the basic cat back, dp and intake set up? i dont have a tuner around here in iowa so tunning is not an option. will the pfc be fine ? i dont plane on going past the basic bolt ons maybe a new smic thats it. the guy also says it has a street port done but im not sure about that . any help would be great .

thanks, chris

if it has a street port then it should have some sort of engine management already

ok ill check to see if it does when it gets here. but if it doesnt, would the base tune of the pfc or the pettit ecu tune be ok? since there is no tuner around me, i wouldnt be able to get the pfc retuned. any suggestions? what ill be running is the intake, catback, dp, and port and polish if it is port and polished. thanks.

Technically, you could buy a PFC from a place like the RX7Store who could load a map which would be for something "similar" to your setup. I don't necessarily recommend it, but it wouldn't be much different than buying a rechipped ECU.

what would you recommend would be better for me . a rechip from pettit or a pfc .
would the base map from the pfc be ok to run ? there also is room to grow with the pfc . if i got the pfc how easy is it to set up ? anything i would have to set myself? like when fans turn on and what not. and doesnt the pfc have like a learning ability so if i get a new intercooler later on down the road i dont have to re map the whole thing.

sorry for all the questions im a super noob with rx7s

Some people will recommend using the PFC base map. IMO, I do not. We have a specific section here on the forum dedicated to helping people use the PFC:

https://www.rx7club.com/power-fc-forum-47/

If you got a PFC, you could get help and find/load maps which may be close to your setup; or at least close enough you could get assistance on fine tuning it. Many people have taken weekend trips down to Texas here in the Midwest to have their cars tuned by RX7.com or Steve Kan at Gotham Racing. Today, there are some closer tuners in Illinois.

Technically the base map should be for getting the car started to be able to tune. However, some shops load on a base map which has been reported to be similar to the stock map but not as conservative.

Check this thread:

Old, but still relevant.
