Are my injectors done for?

Hi guys,

I have recently started to notice a smell of gasoline coming from under the hood. After reading on this forum, many people mention that that is a sign of my O rings going bad, which causes the injectors to leak gas (also my gas mileage is TERRIBLE). When I start my car, the idle goes up normal, and then drops down below 500 RPM and bounces for a few seconds almost dying and then goes back up to normal. RPMs drop to 500 when I clutch in as well. Am I nearly flooding?

My mods are as follows:

Street port
DP, stock cat, CB
Intake
HKS F-CON (set to run very rich)
Boost at 12 PSI

First of all, what other possibilities can there be to explain the smell from under the hood?

Can I rebuild / get new OEM size injectors and be fine running with this set up, or since I'm running rich do I need larger injectors? Will that pass smog in CA?

Do I need any other fuel mods to have a safe set up? I'm trying to keep it smog legal.

Thanks,
-Daniel

The FPD could be bad.

The injectors have little o-rings on them, that could be your problem if they leak. You can buy new o-rings and they dont cost that much.

Another common leak point is the Fuel Pulsation Damper, FPD, you need to find the source of the smell ASAP. Do not drive it till you do. If there is a leak your risking a nasty engine fire.

How do I test to see if the FDP is bad? Where is it located?

Search. The forum has everything you need. Look at the FSM for info on where it is and how to remove it.

I replaced my FDP about 40K miles ago. Whats the typical lifespan of these parts?

I was about to say that. You should check for leaks in that area around the fuel rail, if it is leaking its a major fire hazard in your engine bay.
