Yes, there is a rear teanny seal. R501-17-335A, I think. Pop it out with a wood chisel (after pulling the drive shaft...), tap the new one home gently (rubber mallet is friend).

SWEET frickin' turbos. All 'yall complaining about lag this and unequaa spool that... get over it!

can you find the second turbo?

don't count out real twin turbo systems just yet.... mine has 11,000 miles on it and is capable of 84 pounds per minute at a low 23 psi boost. the design target is 630 rwhp on pump and alcohol.

i have done 3 dyno sessions this year and have made 364 ft pounds tq at 6000 at 15.5 psi. 365 hp at 10 psi boost. 200 rwhp at 4250. we haven't gotten past 15 psi and have had to deal w a few details but expect to be back on the dyno and running 20 psi+ in a couple of weeks.

given the fact it makes 200 rwhp at 4250 the spool is fine. compare 4250 w your typical (80 lb/min) gt42 and check out where it reaches 200 rw... (hint... around 4750)

i will post a dyno sheet after my next session in a couple of weeks.

i'm thinking of doing a similar project with twin t3's. I think that the should do the trick also. I'm trying to collect as much info on after market twins on an FD. Most people i know go with the larger single. I would like to keep the original luster of the twins. Does anyone know of anyone doing a after market twin sequential set-up? It would be a bit too much work for me personally but i would like to see how it turned out and what kind of numbers it produces.

i dynoed twice in 08. during the second session (sep) we were able to raise the boost to 20 psi.

93 octane pump gas and the FJO HD-AI system running 1400 CC/Min of methanol at peak torque.

with a conservative 12 degrees timing and 11 degrees split the motor made 498 rwhp SAE. average knock from 6000 to 8250 was 9 on the Power FC. preturbo EGT was 1400 F to one bar and 1500 to 20 psi. exhaust back pressure at 20 psi boost was 21 psi. the motor was too rich in the mid 11s w the methanol... i can add another 100 degrees of EGT which will make more hp at 20 psi.

i ran out of actuator spring at 20. i will be running more spring in my actuators for 09 and should tune out at 630 rwhp at 27 psi which is max boost for my setup. i plan to run it ontrack around 550 rw and 20 psi.

i have since taken my motor apart. it had 14,000 miles on it, over 100 dyno pulls and had been in my car for four years since i built it. it was pulling 17 inches of vacuum at idle and was in good shape so i thought it would be time for some analytical forensics.

due to the cleansing of the alcohol my rotors were clean, apex and side seal grooves were immaculate. side seal clearance had opened but one thou in 4 years!!

all partially due to lack of backpressure w the two three inch downpipes and over 10.8 sq inches of turbine area ( a T4 Q is 6.6) and the alcohol.

the motor will go back together w new springs/seals and be on the shelf as i am building a new NRS ceramic seal motor w some advanced porting.

as to spool etc... i look at all dyno sheets for hp under the curve. specifically, i note where each makes 200 rwhp. i have seen single turbos (the smaller GT35s) make 200 a hair below 4000 rpm. generally GT35s are around 43-4400... gt42s are nearer 5000. i made 200 at 4250.

so w my setup i have the bottom end of a GT35 and the top end (84 lbs/minute at 27 psi) of a gt42. all w no knock and a happy motor.

my turbos after 4 years are absolutely perfect. thanks Majestic.

howard:

was it difficult getting 2x3" downpipes squeezed past the motor?do they kink at all? or round all the way?

do they continue seperate all the way back? or do they unite around the tranny area? how large is the rest of your exhaust? 4"?

are the turbo's T3's?

what kind of port are u running?

there is just enough room w no kinks and thermal wrap for the two 3 inch pipes. see pic in my thread in the 3rd gen section entitled "making the case for the rotary powered fd."

they slip fit into a Burns Stainless 2 into one w a 3 inch Vee band on the back of the collecter. i then have a Borla 3 inch straight thru mid muffler PB 40944 i think. i have a Vee band on the front of the muffler and a Racing Beat CB. sound is perfect for me. i really didn't want a 4 inch exhaust or twin pipes as it just gets too loud for my taste.

turbos are TO4E 46 trim, center is water and oil cooled journal bearing w 360 thrust plate. rear is T3 .82 A/R w stage 5 wheel. rear is ATP "Ultimate Wastegate" which is really trick w a 3 inch Vee band connction. internal wastegates work perfectly given they control, each, a 44 pound/min turbo. i have ran the actuators from the stock FD system. they work til 20 psi and will now be replaced w something w a bit more spring.

ports are a middle range street port.

You know darn well it hits 200 rwhp at 4600 rpm, don't sell it short! HA.
What's new for you Howard? Switch out the WG springs yet?... or has the record snow fall kept the modding at bay for now...
