My horns SUCK

I got to thinking about this a lot last night when I had a couple *** holes pull out in front of me. Why is it that the horns on our FD's royaly suck. I mean... I have had two 3rd gens that have done this so I know it couldn't just be my luck. Its to the point where I can tap the brakes while holding down the horn and it will SIGNIFICANTLY change pitches when the lights come on. Also, since we have 2 different horns each at a different pitches I most often only hear one of them. Every know and then both will come on. They will also increase strength with the rpms... they sound perfectly normal when going anything above 45mph. Anybody else suffer from this? and does anybody else have a solution?

Time to upgrade the horns . I had air horns in my '88 T2 - sounds just like horns on a Ferrari or something. Biggest advantage was they were VERY loud and got attention VERY fast. You get some quick responses when you lean on 'em!

You can get cheap Fiamm ones at Pep Boys for like $20-30 or so.

The horns (if you have 2) on the FD are really bad. My 94 PEP had only one horn, and it was pathetic. I went to Kragens and bought a 108 decibel Magnum Blaster horn. It was around $16, and works very well. I even like the sound

I totally agree about the horns, and all my friends make fun of how ***** they sound. Yesterday, some older lady totally jacked me, I honked and she freakin stuck her tounge out at me. I wanna horn that will really let these jack holes have it!

I was thinking about the HELLA horns that I've seen sold at a few places. They're like $100 though. I want something that will make 'em jump.

I would love to go "still" one because "stealing" might be illegal

SWEEEEET!

Would it be better to just run two completely new lines to two new horns? Actually, i can't imagine running a line back to the steering wheel... can somebody find out where it would be best to splice into for some new ones. It seems obvious that it shouldn't be done at the stock horns.

Just splice at the horn relay. You shouldn't have to screw with the steering wheel.

While you're at it, you might consider running better grounds or maybe a dedicated + feed, especially if you're upgrading.

so there is a dedicated horn relay? If you don't mind me asking, do you know where it is? I can look it up later if you don't.

Yes... it's SOMEWHERE

I think it's in that relaybox near the stock intake.

I'm far away from my manuals right now.

Actually, most horns wire straight to battery or switched power with a relay - the stock horn lead just switches the relay on.

I know air horns need a good supply of current. They actually have a small air compressor that blows air through the horns. Air horns are CRAZY loud - I really dig the sound!

i use the horn alot. i like to honk at people on the side of the road, especially girls that look good. but like some of you, one of my horns stopped workin awhile back and now it sound so weak. im embarrased to even use it unless its an emergency. and then it probably wouldnt be heard. definately need to upgrade.
