My Full Non-Sequential Review

First impression, sound like an N/A with a high flow catback from idle on up. (My M2 exhaust was previously quiet on throttle up, but now it's active across the entire throttle range.)
I'm not one to take it easy on test runs, and I had no hesitation to mash the throttle after the car reached 200 degrees. Out of the box, OH MY GOD!!! Unbelievable how fast this little car scoots from first to 4th! I have no doubt that this car will pull low 13's at Palmdale. My initial boost settings were set to 7 psi, and it reached it very quickly from 1st on up. My preliminary run ended with a loose intercooler hose clamp noted by a sudden loss of boost. I tightened the hose and went out for another run.

Second impression. Smooth build up as promised, and very reactive in low gears. The engine feels very powerful at full throttle, and I believe I could reach 0-60 in close to 5 seconds easily. I drove the car around for another few signal Christmas trees, and decided that I would get some Taco Bell since I felt I earned it.

Third impression. What happened to my second gear cruising torque? My guess is that it left with the TCA door, but I knew there had to be a trade off. So far the non-sequential setup is as advertised, smooth, predictable, and fun fast, but to be honest, I miss the charm of the sequential setup during lower cruising speeds. 4th and 5th gears are not responsive at all at 65MPH cruising.
Sequential setup fills in the blah spots so effectively, that it's no wonder Mazda designed the car the way they did. But don't get me wrong, non-sequential is a blast so far.

One more thing, I am able to control my boost running a stock ECU without an electronic boost controller. I am using my HD valves to regulate boost. No precontrol, or waste gate control solenoids used. I am slightly venting the waste gate actuator and restricting the inlet flow with two valves. My mods are, M2 catback, stock main cat, gutted precat, RE intake, and M2 aluminum flywheel/pulleys.

Hmmm. You couldn't before the conversion?

yeah...non seq was fun...for about a weekend...then i drove it in daily traffic and got rather tired of waiting for my boost.

seq is my favorite...but if i lived where there were open roads I might feel different.

Spooledup, if throw a down pipe, resonated mid pipe, (mid pipe like me, or high flow cat will work nicely too.), IC and maybe a efini y pipe, the car will build boost very, very quickly. The only gear where I miss non-seq is in 5th...but i'm use to driving a n/a...so even that is'nt that bad. When running 7psi, on my 245/50/16s, the car will break the tires loose in first gear. When running 13lbs, there is'nt much traction through 2nd gear. I can't wait to take it to the strip and see what she'll realy do! CJ

I wouldn't mind try that setup for ***** and giggles, but I have an M2 exhaust, and I already think that is too loud.

I still need to dial in my boost settings. I am going to see what happens when I close off the waste gate all together. If I build up boost quicker, then I am going to use the vacuum chamber to delay the fill up.
