My FD3S drift project

I have my project started. I got -92 FD from Japan, car had done for 90tkm and was in pretty good shape. I have started taking parts out of car and now there's just engine and transmission to take out and then I can get the car to be re-painted.

The car is going to have C-west bodykit, carbon fiber hood, carbon hatch and doors made out of carbon fibre. Mirrors from APR-performance and APR GTC-300 carbon fibre rear wing. Wheels are going to be 19" Buddy Club Racing 2 wheels.

Suspension first from Buddy Club but will propably change to Cusco setup during summer. Front brakes from GREX (6-pot with 330mm rotors) and rear brakes new oem rotors and GREX pads.

For engine I will have:

From GReddy, T78 kit with manifold and external vaste gate, Blow off type R, aluminium radiator + big ic (going to make V-mount from them), GReddy Racing Ti mufler + custom made titanium front pipe, GReddy oil coolers, catch tank and breather tank.

Engine managament is going to be handled with Apex Power FC, clutch is going to be Cusco super single and LSD Cusco MZ.

I'm looking for 400-450hp from engine and really hoping to get some 100-150kg off from weight. The car is going to be built for drifting, but I'm sure that I will try some grip driving and quarter miles with that also.

Here is few pictures of the car. I don't have latest pictures of the car but I will post them when I have the time to take them

I dont think i would suggest getting the car painted if your going to drift with the car. Your probably gonna smack the car into a wall within the first few months of drifting it. I would build the car, get the hang of how a single turbo FD works in situations. If after you feel you are ready, by all means go for it.

Yeah, good point

However, that car is going to work as a demo car for our company, so it would be taken for fairs etc. And full paint job is somewhere between 1500-2000$ so it is quite reasonable if you think for the costs for this whole project.

This isn't the cheapest country

The whole car will be painted, inside out. Car will propably be honda racing white with just the hood with visible carbon. All other carbon parts will be painted to body color.

The car is clearly made for marketing purposes (and maybe for some fun too ) so price for value is a bit hard to be counted only in dollars (or euros). But funding should be in order and I believe (=hope) that car will be ready for test drive in someday around may.

And I most certainly will keep you up to date with this project

I think you have some good ideas but here is my input.

If the car is for marketing purposes, you want it to be different right? Then there's a couple of things you should consider rethinking:

Bodykit:
The CWEST is a very common kit borderlining played out. I think the worst part about it is that there is another Drift Rx-7 running this kit too:

Color:
I also don't think white is the best color for this car if it's for marketing. There are TWO white Rx-7 Drift Cars.

This one, I forget the owner's name, he used to have a red one til he slammed it into a wall:

and probably the most Famous Rx-7 Drifter, Apex'i's:

Lastly, I agree that a T-78 may be a little big for this application. You may want something with quicker spool.

Anyhow, Good luck with everything. Can't wait to see this car in the future.

yes, smaller turbo definately, obviously the most important thing is to get your suspension worked out.

That kit is DRFT kit, I am going to have C-West kit like this:

And for the color, the white is only color for the drift car

And this side of the world there aren't many sevens and there aren't any D1-like drift cars, so I choose to go either way, the car should be something that crowds have never seen before.

I have straight contacts with Cusco and Tanabe (in Japan) so I believe that we can get suspension parts to work as good as it could be. I have couple of dyno sheets from Trust with FD3S and T78 and even T88. Those cars are like 400hp from engine and that curve seems to be very subtle.

But I believe that I start with T78 and if it isn't good for my use I'll "downgrade" it to some smaller one.

And thank you for you all for the chears, I'll keep you notified for the changes in project

Driftin is no contest with a V-8 powered car... maybe thats why you guys like it, its difficult to work with an engine with no torque.... I am being serious, no bashing. i Have a 94 toyota pickup with a Ls1 in it, sportin FD stock wheels in the back Even tho its a truck and it sits 4ft taller than a car and has body roll like a ****... I can powerslide ( i hate using "drift" seems to be played out already) that truck whereever i want, whenever i want, however i want.
If i didnt care about my Ls1/FD i'd take it out to the driftin course or whatever. probably show everyone up too. Racing fourwheelers on the ice teaches you a lot and its the same **** as "drifting", except your in a car.

Good luck with the car, replace all those rear end bushings!

The car is going to have C-west bodykit, carbon fiber hood,

these are ok mods if the carbon hood has mighty big vents for ***** and giggles

carbon hatch and doors made out of carbon fibre.

why the hell would you do this? stock is fairly light as is and your probally gonna ruin it the first time you slam in to something unless you are a pro, then again the pros hit **** too

Mirrors from APR-performance and APR GTC-300 carbon fibre rear wing.

i guess these mods are ok if you like the look

Wheels are going to be 19" Buddy Club Racing 2 wheels.

bwahahahahahaha you gotta be kidding me!

Suspension first from Buddy Club but will propably change to Cusco setup during summer. Front brakes from GREX (6-pot with 330mm rotors) and rear brakes new oem rotors and GREX pads.

these mods seem to be fine

For engine I will have:

From GReddy, T78 kit with manifold and external vaste gate

WTF, that turbo is way to big!

Blow off type R

i guess so, if you like the sound

aluminium radiator + big ic (going to make V-mount from them)

this seems like it should already be mandatory

GReddy Racing Ti mufler + custom made titanium front pipe, GReddy oil coolers, catch tank and breather tank. Engine managament is going to be handled with Apex Power FC,

these mods seem resonable

clutch is going to be Cusco super single and LSD Cusco MZ.

i dont have any experience with this clutch or lsd so i cant comment on them but they seem fine

I'm looking for 400-450hp from engine and really hoping to get some 100-150kg off from weight. The car is going to be built for drifting, but I'm sure that I will try some grip driving and quarter miles with that also.

either build it for one or the other or your gonna end up with something 1/2 ***

I'll have C-west replica hood, so it will have on big went for v-mount intercooler breathing.

Because I want to

Main thing is that when we sell something, it will be nice to have those parts on our demo cars too. We are lucky enough to have tracks with wide safety areas so I'll hope not to chrash that on to anything hard. And anyhow if something is going to brake, it'll always can be fixed too

No, those rims are for show and I might be having some smaller or lighter wans to the track. Problem is that for example Buddy Club Racing QF rims weihgt like 6.8kg in 18" size but they look really vapid.

That'll we see eventually. I'm almost sure that engine can be tuned to work fine even with that big turbo.

You are right with that. The car is built for drifting but I sure hope that with suspension setup changes the car can be track driven and I can take few quarter miles with that too.

You had really good opinions, but when the car is built for marketing purposes as well as for driving, there will always be some compromises.
