Is my FD a Type R1???

Gentleman: The R model was a U.S. option package. The poster who began this thread is from the U.K. They had a different option package from us. In addition, some Japanese market cars have been imported into the U.K. so it may be difficult to tell exactly what he has. From the English car magazines I've read, the RX-7's sold there had a mix of the options we got. They contained some touring and R pieces. For instance, on this particular car you can see it has fog lights, which didn't come on our R models.

BuckyFD3, can you post a photo of the stickers on the door sills? They give more information as to the options on the car.
For instance, here's mine:

Bucky D,
In looking at my RX-7 Memorial book (yes, in Japanese), it looks like you do have a Type R. Type R is the first model to appear in the 3rd generation section of my book. From what I gathered in looking at the pictures (my wife isn't here at the moment to translate it), it looks like your car meets the criteria i.e. rear windshield wiper, no moonroof, suede looking seats, etc. I am not sure about the seat configuration because they didn't show a picture of the rear seats/bin area. I will ask my wife to translate when she gets home. Hopefully, she will be able to provide you a better answer.

My wife just came home and she has translated what she could (not too familiar with car terms). Looks like the Type R did come with back seats, and I think that was standard on the Type R back then. They also picture the car with only a tape player (no CD player). Also, I noticed that you had an aftermarket wing and mirrors on your car. Those were not standard (as far as I know).
I think you do have a Type R (two oil coolers), as the Type S only had one oil cooler(light and basic grade) and Type X (moonroof, leather seats, bose acoustic) don't seem to fit your description.
I hope this helps. I am sure you could find more info if you ask this question in the far east section.
