No, it's an "R1", not a "Type R1".

And I assume that shot was of your car with the engine pulled?

And its a 2+2 so isn't a 2 seater with the storage bins in the back if that makes a difference.

R1?

I noticed you had a rear windshield wiper.
In the states no R1 or R2 came with a rear wiper.

Gentleman: The R model was a U.S. option package. The poster who began this thread is from the U.K. They had a different option package from us. In addition, some Japanese market cars have been imported into the U.K. so it may be difficult to tell exactly what he has. From the English car magazines I've read, the RX-7's sold there had a mix of the options we got. They contained some touring and R pieces. For instance, on this particular car you can see it has fog lights, which didn't come on our R models.

Sorry, I had skipped over this post. This R and Touring model distinction is a U.S. model thing. It doesn't apply in the same way to the U.K. and Japanese market cars. So, for your purposes, it's best forgotten. If I were you, I'd surf some of the Japanese RX-7 sites, using translators software if necessary, to find the specs on your particular car. In your case, the only thing that really makes a difference is the shocks and perhaps the bushings. See if you can find out if you have the firmer shocks. On the other hand, it may already have aftermarket shocks on it.

BuckyFD3, can you post a photo of the stickers on the door sills? They give more information as to the options on the car.

For instance, here's mine:

Bucky D,

In looking at my RX-7 Memorial book (yes, in Japanese), it looks like you do have a Type R. Type R is the first model to appear in the 3rd generation section of my book. From what I gathered in looking at the pictures (my wife isn't here at the moment to translate it), it looks like your car meets the criteria i.e. rear windshield wiper, no moonroof, suede looking seats, etc. I am not sure about the seat configuration because they didn't show a picture of the rear seats/bin area. I will ask my wife to translate when she gets home. Hopefully, she will be able to provide you a better answer.

My wife just came home and she has translated what she could (not too familiar with car terms). Looks like the Type R did come with back seats, and I think that was standard on the Type R back then. They also picture the car with only a tape player (no CD player). Also, I noticed that you had an aftermarket wing and mirrors on your car. Those were not standard (as far as I know).

I think you do have a Type R (two oil coolers), as the Type S only had one oil cooler(light and basic grade) and Type X (moonroof, leather seats, bose acoustic) don't seem to fit your description.

I hope this helps. I am sure you could find more info if you ask this question in the far east section.

Thanks for the info there, you can see how I wasn't really getting anything from searches on the forum and the net.

Here are the stickers that I have on my car.

Door sill stickers

Under bonnet stickers

Thanks for your help guys.
