Question My FD is possessed!

This is REALLY pissing me off... Yesterday, my 93 FD just up and started flipping out. Literally. My lights were flipping up and down, as well as all the exterior lights turning on and off. Sounds like the stock alarm going off right? Not quite. NO sound coming from it. I have a Viper aftermarket alarm installed. Whether the Viper is armed or disarmed, the car will randomly flip out. When I go to disarm the Viper on the FOB, it chirps and disarms, but the car will continue to keep being retarded. Until I physically put the key in the driver side lock and unlock the doors, it just continues to flip out. Does anyone have a quick fix for this? I'm about to drive to Clearwater, FL tomorrow and I don't want to be worrying about my car going nuts all night long. Thanks ahead of time.

who installed the Viper alarm? Perhaps whoever installed the aftermarket alarm half assed it and didn't fully disable the stock one, maybe they just disconnected the speaker..

I'm pretty sure the installer didn't half-*** it, but it's just so odd that after having that alarm on my car for over a year and a half, and it just now started acting up like that? Thanks for the suggestions guys.

maybe you should double check over the alarm wiring to make sure none of the wires got disconnected.

I've got the same setup and have the same problem except for the silent thing. Mine makes noises. It usually happens about 1 out of 10 times that I turn the Viper alarm off. I'll hear the chirp from the viper but then the stock alarm starts going off. It's really embarrassing. I'd love to find the fix for this.

If anyone knows how to disable the stock alarm I would love to know how.

Also, sometimes when my turbo timer is running, I can't turn the Viper alarm on. Has anyone experienced anything like that?

Thanks,
Jeremy

I had an experience where my horn would blow one short beep in the middle of the night. Not always, just once or twice a month. Originally I figured it was coming from some car out on the street.

Then one afternoon IM working in the garage when I hear my horn & see my light flip up & down. Scared the **** out of me. Years ago I had changed my horns to PIAA hella loud ones. Couldn't find any obvious problem so I let it go.

2 am IM awaking by that single loud beep. I start to doze off when I awake again to that single beep. This is starting to **** me off, but IM too lazy to go do anything about it. I tell myself "one more time & IM gonna do something". Well it did it three more times in less than an hour. I finally dragged my *** downstairs & disconnected my battery to shut it up.

My neighbor works nights & stays up all hours on his days off. I theorized he had some remote for his stereo that broadcast on radio waves & my car's keyless entry was getting random signals. I pulled the blackbox for the keyless entry system & reconnected the battery. Problem solved. I just had to manually lock & unlock my car now.

Not an hour passed & my horn went off again. WTF????? So much for random signals.

The next day I get out my trusty FSM & search through the wiring diagrams. I discovered that CPU # 2 operates the security system. I noticed that a bunch of stuff happens with that box. Leave the keys in or lights on & a buzzer will sound. ****, my buzzer hasn't worked in months & when it did it sounded like a sick cat. I also notice my security light stopped flashing when I locked the doors.

Long story short Got a new CPU # 2 box from Mazda motorsports, $160, & now my cars works as advertised. Key in/lights on Buzzer sounds, 10 second delay on alarm arming then flashing. Plus for the past year if I opened the door after I started the car The seat belt light would illuminate. Didn't mater that I always buckle up prior to staring. It fixed that too.

I'd really like to know what the solution to this problem is. .... bump

I've also got a problem with the Viper not wanting to arm while the timer is counting down. Anybody ever run into this?

I've owned many RX7s over the years. I've had a handful of them go wacky when either the alternator or battery went. A shorted battery can result in weird things on an RX7, from headlights moving up and down and the horn going off randomly. A shorted battery or blown alternator are relatively simple and inexpensive things to address.

i disconnected the negative battery cable for a quick fix.... connected it and took it down the the dealership to get reset.... and it was fine after that.... maybe give that a try?
