Unhappy My FD failed me on the freeway

While coming back from a 2-hour road trip my FD suddenly lost power and won’t accelerate anymore. I was in the left lane so I tried to changed lane so I can get to the side of the highway. I couldn’t tell at the time if the engine was still running or not but the car was slowing down more and more and I didn’t want to get stuck in the middle of the HW. It was differcult moving over cause people just didn’t want to slow down and let me change lane. Finally I cut and did whatever I have to and got to the side.

My FD is in so good of shape that I would have never expected this to happen. I am a mechanic and when there is something weird I would take care of it right away. There was no sign and suddenly total lost of power.

I tried starting the engine but it won’t start. I knew it was either no fuel or spark but cars and trucks were flying by at 80MPH next to me so I was not about to start troubleshooting right there.

I waited few minutes and tried it again still nothing. Luckily I have AAA 100 mile towing so just going to get it home to check it out.

While calling AAA a van stopped and was nice enough to help me push the car more to the side and he stopped because his son has a FD also and said all the FD owners in the area know each other and he has never seen my car so we chat for little bit.

Great guy and he was going offer his AAA tow to help me also.

Got my FD home and check for spark and fuel. Found no fuel to the front so I removed the fuel pump assembly. I jumped 12V to the motor and %$$&^ it was working fine.
Tried it few times more and found the white connecter on the top cover to have some kind of bad connection or burned connection on the + pin. So the power is not getting to the FP because it was not was to pass through the plate connector.

Not sure if Mazda sells this connector?? I might just drill a hole on the cover and bypass a wire through there.

The funny thing is I was thinking about threads on how people say they are afraid to take FD on long trips and I thought my FD different but now it’s a little scary.

take this as the opportunity to buy a new, higher flowing fuel pump... you know, just incase you do some modifications later on that require it

cool beans on figuring it out.

Yeah I trust my FD to go on roadtrips to, but If something like that happend Its not like I'd be afraid to take it out on a long trip again. I think its just a general chance you take with cars with that much mileage on them and/or are older like the FD. Good job finding the problem so fast

It's a 13 or 14 year old car. These things happen.
