my clutch is fecked?
my clutch is fecked?
hmmm, my clutch has been slipping for a while now, and i know it needs to be replaced, but as of today something else happened.
now when i engage the clutch pedal i get no feedback till around about the last inch. and now if i release the clutch pedal even the slightest it will engage (it made for some real intersting down shifts.) now its not really causing any huge problems but im wondering if its leading to another problem, is it just that i need to replace my clutch or is it something else (im getting my car serviced soon, and a new clutch put in, but any feedback would be good.)
cheers

The clutch release fork also breaks on FD's. That would give a similar symptom if it were on its way out.
The clutch master/slave may only need bleeding, but if it happened suddenly, then there may be a fluid leak in the master, slave, or the hydraulic line between them.

When the engagement point starts getting to the top of the clutch pedal travel, that typically means the clutch itself is getting REALLY thin. I've done about 5 FD clutch jobs with this exact scenario.
The original clutches Mazda used on the '93s were really weak and wore VERY quickly. The newer clutch discs are a lot more stout.
A clutch job on an FD isn't that difficult, and it's a zillion times easier with air tools. Just figure out what you want to get for a clutch and how much money you'll need.
I doubt it's the clutch hydraulics - bad hydraulics bring the engagement point *lower*, to the point where the pedal sticks to the floor and you have to pop it back up with your foot.
