Question My car won't shut off?!

It started last night. Basically when I pull the key, the car continues to run and the odometer stays lit up just like with a turbo timer. Radio and everything else turns off etc. I have a greddy turbo timer, but I disconnected it from the harness last night thinking it was the culprit. The turbo timer actually quit working previous to the shut off problem, but since I have the ls1 in now I wasn't concerned and just left it hooked up. Right now the only way I can shut the car off is by disconnecting a battery terminal. Anyone have any ideas before I start looking into what the problem is?

Thanks!

if you disconnect the battery while it's running...the car should still run off the alt, right?

that is a weird problem you've got.

well actually I pulled the wire to the fuel pump first then disconnected the battery. I'm not sure what happens when I just pull the terminal. I would imagine the same thing since the fuel pump would not have voltage.

Do not allow your engine / alternator to run for any extended period of time without being connected to a battery s this would cause damage to your alternator !!.
I had a similar problem with my car , after checking everything else I checked my ignition system and found that one of the ground wires on one of my MSD boxes was caught with a power wire and was somehow keeping my ignition system on which in turn kept the car on lthough the key was remived.

i have a similar problem...what happens with me is that if the A/C is on the car will not shut off untill i turn off the A/C. I can have the A/C on, pull out the key, the car will stay running, then turn off the A/C and it will shut off.

I was wrong and not thinking. It'll run without the battery hooked up. The alternator is obviously supplying voltage.

I have to disconnect the fuel pump and battert to turn the car off. A friend recommended pulling the ignition switch and cleaning all the terminals.

Any more input?

I had a similar problem on my Mustang. It turned out to be the ignition control box which had lost continuity between some of the many contacts. It was replaced and all was well with the world.

FYI, on most cars, if you disconnect the battery the engine will not run, regardless if the alternator is still supplying voltage.
