My car has issues - Seriously down on power

I had my car rolling roaded today, as I knew it wasn't as quick as it should be. However, the car only put out 179.9bhp at the fly and 190.6 lb/ft!

The car is a Japanese imported 1992 Mazda RX7 type R (we think). It has a decat, cat back exhaust, Re-amemiya filter and a Power FC running on the base map.

When I originally bought the car, there were some issues with the turbos that meant that the turbo pack had to be replaced, but AFAIK, it was the turbo pack only and not anything else that was replaced.

These are the graphs that I got from the rolling road.

Looking at the torque graph (the second one), it looks like the torque starts to drop off at about 3.5k.

Obviously theres something majorly wrong with the car, as it should be far more than this standard. It did have some leaking boost pipes, which have been replaced, but due to the fact that it does seem sluggish higher up the revs, would it indicate a problem with the turbos, or more specifically, something to do with the second turbo?

Also, I must add that I have a normal boost gauge, plumbed into the intake, as well as the boost gauge on the Apexi commander. Both seem to show different figures. The Apexi shows no more than 0.6 bar, but the normal boost gauge shows just under 1 sometimes.

Again, does this indicate a problem somewhere?

What is your boost gauge telling you at transition? Is there a slight loose of power there and then back up? It sounds like your only running 7psi of boost. There must be a setting on the power fc somewhere for the boost controller. The guy that owned it before you might of turned the boost down for some reason. Maybe he did that to hide the problems on the car. Hope it works out.

I put the powerfc on it and its only running on the base map, so it should be running normal boost for the map. It was standard when I bought the car, other than an exhaust and from what I can see, the guy didn't have any indication that there was a problem.

I'll keep an eye on the commander tonight, and see what happens with the boost.

It looks like your secondary turbo isn't coming online. Your torque drops when it should keep rising. I bet you there is a problem in your sequential control system.

I had been led to believe it was a problem with the secondary as well. I'm going to take it to the shop next week hopefully anyway and let them sort it out.

there are a few UK guys on the board here. you might want to look them up and see if they know a good specialist for these cars.

diagnosing turbo issues are extremely difficult on these cars and very few people know how to do it.

Make sure you PIM voltage is on the normal setting and not one of the option settings. I had some electrical issues and it made my pfc go nuts and change a bunch of values. It set the PIM voltage to option 2. Wouldnt make the correct amount of boost and the car would fall flat on its face after the secondary injectors came on. It seems stupid, and I kicked myself for not checking it when it happened to me, but the problems sounded simliar to yours.

You can't control the boost unless you have the very un reliable boost controller that is extra. He didn't state he had one, and adjusting it on the pfc comander would be useless

I had a problem like that but it was due to many vaccuum leaks after about 2 months of constant problems, I finally got it working.

"Also, I must add that I have a normal boost gauge, plumbed into the intake"
Is you boost gauge plumbed into the intake manifold?? or the intake pipe?? just clarifying on this

It's (boost gauge) plumbed into the manifold. The PIM voltage is at the normal setting, as i've already checked that.

The guy who will be looking at it has the quickest RX7 in the UK, so he does know his stuff. He was the guy who changed the turbos in the first place, so hopefully he can spot whats wrong and be able to correct it. He did some work on it a few weeks ago and changed some leaking vacuum pipes then, so hopefully the problem shouldn't be down to leaking boost.

Does the Power FC have a limp mode as such? I did have a problem with my fuel temperature sensor, which has now been replaced, but i've not had chance to drive it properly since.
