i got the 7100 for $400 shipped.

i dunno if they were having a sale or what...
the 3100 is about 400 from the website.

yea, it's expensive, but if the car gets stolen, it pays for itself 10X over. $400.... how much do you have invested in your stereo or other mods?

dude you could put that thing in a little box up by the fuel filter and a thief would NEVER know its there. then you go burn down their house and drive your car away from the crime scene

That looks like just the thing I need for my FD. I don't think it would get stolen, but you never know. Plus I am living in a townhouse without a garage right now so the chances are higher that it would be stolen, and I am just paranoid.

LAS isn't the only manufacturer either. there's a bunch of them out now.
pop onto ebay and search for gps and then check out all the websites.

this one just happened to have the features that i think are important at the price i wanted.

someone else might like a different unit better.

I wouldn't take much notice of these I've-got-a-gun-and-am-gonna-use-it posts. They appear on pretty much every car theft thread on every board that I have been on, posted by guys who think that someone is going to be impressed by the fact that they have gone down to their local Walmart and bought a gun.

Apart from the innate stupidity of confronting someone with a gun to protect something that is replaceble and is most likely insured (and shooting a few tin cans at the local quarry is not exactly training for tackling a possibly-armed human), a person will most likely spend 10+ years in prison if they actually succeed in their school boy quest of killing a thief.

A low insurance deductible is probably the best defense against theft.

You better have every recipt for every mod and bit of work you've had done, plus pictures, plus have informed your insurance company and documented this stuff with them in advance, or you aint getting ****.

You'll get replacement value for an "average stock car" in your area... then good luck "replacing" it with something worthwhile... half the FD's out there are total turds.

An ignition disabling device is probably a good idea if you don't park in a secured area...

I'd probably pull my Kimber out and use the grip to bust out the window if I saw that on a car. That's just asking for trouble...

Springfield Armory 1911 Long Slide
Don't buy a Springfield, buy a Kimber or go all out and get a Wilson Combat.

While I don't disagree with this, I dispise thieves. Who cares if the scum of the earth get killed off, they aren't productive to society anyway. Harsh? Maybe, but it's the truth. It's pathetic how PC everything is these days. It makes me sick.

Nothing got to do with being PC. As someone who used to own an yellow Integra Type-R (which had an absolutely enormous chance of being stolen in the Bay Area), I have little sympathy for thiefs and would not lose a minute's sleep for one who buys the farm while trying to rob a car.

However, risking one's life (and maybe the life of other family members if things get really out of hand) for perhaps a few hundred dollars loss (after insurance) and possibly going to jail in the remote chance that you get lucky and kill a thief is not IMHO an entirely rational thing to do.

How does that help if it's on the back of a flat-bed?

Cool gadget though...

Couldn't you just ping the device if someone used a flatbed to steal the car, wouldn't make a difference I would think.

Yea, that device can only give information once you plug it into your computer after the fact. They state on the FAQ's that it is NOT a real time device and will not help you find a stolen car. Or am I missing something?

Of course you can. If a person is attempting to steal a car that's a known risk they're aware of and have decided to face. The important issue is that the person doing the shooting has to be able to demonstrate, within reason, that they were realistically in fear for their own safety, such as the thief charging at you with a tire iron or something, or holding something that looks like a gun. You can't sneak up and shoot the person in the back or anything of that nature. As some others have mentioned it's not worth the risk if you have a family etc. I wouldn't kill the person in my case unless they were in the house, in the process of entering the house or threatening a family member outside of the house. Of course my Kuvasz would tear em up by then anyway Laws vary state to state, a lot of the wack-job states like NY, CA etc. may require a higher standed for proving your life is in danger. Of course CA would probably fine you for the smog from the gun firing even if the person was raping your child at the time.

Kevin

PS. Never wound, always shoot to kill and continue firing until they are dead. A wounded person is still a threat to your life and anyone in your house, probably more of a threat than if you had never shot at all.

Killing someone for trying to steal your car is one thing, but you'd be within your rights to blow away someone who looks like they're reaching for a weapon if you catch them trying to steal your car...

At least in a red state :p

HEH, DC2-Rs.. Those things are built STOLEN from the factory. Until the Honda craze blows over finally, no one in their right mind should own an R.

Agreed! Thats what I do every day! haha j/j

I just look at it as cleaning up the gene pool. The only aftermarket part in my interior is a 40 HK compact. You can't blame me!! Look was happened in New Orleans 4 months ago! I carry it almost all the time.
