Angry My buddies 3rd gen

So my best friend just got his car back from rx7.com (rotary performance) which i thought was a good reputable company. it was sent there cause the motor had blown, it already had a single turbo, and a apexi power fc, done to it, they were supposed to street port it and put 3mm seals and rebuild it, upgrade the fuel system and tune the car.

They told him the car made 361whp on the dyno which for the mods i thought it should be well over 400.
Well anyway the car runs like ****! wont boost over 7psi and spits and spudders. the bov was loose so i tightened that up and it seemed to improve but still runs like crap.

He will be calling them tomarrow of course, but i was wondering if anyone on here had any suggestions, and if anyone else had any bad experiences with rx7.com?

ari is a good guy over there and they have one hell of a drag car that is pumping something like 600hp.

honestly, it is hard to say what is really going wrong with it. it could be anything... even a bad injector or mess up ignition may cause it.

yeah iam not blameing anyone or talking bad, it just alittle rediculous, when the car was there forever, and it gets back running like this.

I dont know if its normal or not but I have 3mm seals and a mild street port and mine has always sputtered and spit. I thought that was normal, steve kan never said it was any thing weird when he tuned it for me.

It's only a street port, you shouldn't expect it to make 400 unless you have a bridgeport or up the boost more. A street port increases horsepower, but not as much as you'd think. Also the idle is lumpier with a street port.

"sputtered and spit" is still a vague description of the problem

and don't get obsessed over dyno numbers. they are highly dependent on the dyno used, and those SAE corrections are meaningless

Why would anyone pay for and take delivery of a car that is "running like crap"? The moment you leave the shop and it's running that way, wouldn't you TURN AROUND?

Sounds like something happened after you left the shop.

Instead of wasting your time and making this thread which contains NO USEFUL DIAGNOSTIC INFORMATION, maybe you should have bit your tongue until you could call the shop and figure the issue out. I'm sure they will be accommodating.

So let's see, you come on the forum to badmouth a vendor you haven't even talked to yet?

I'd recommend calling Chris and Ari and speaking to them. Their work is top notch and I can't see them turning out a car with issues.

Also, greddy td06 will not make huge power, it's not your typical 'single turbo,' it's kind of tiny.

He gained about 45 rwhp at the same boost from a fresh build and port, that's not bad.

Last night was the first time he drove the car, after the shop said it was done the car was shipped out. he is calling the shop today. i made this thread to see if anyone had any suggestions not to bad mouth the shop. and yes i would expect around 400 with a street port with these supporting mods. his dads car has the same mods, and made 365whp on 8psi. i know some dyno read diff iam not an idiot. i said spitting and spuddering cause thats what it sounds like i have not riden in the car just listen to it as he drove it. iam just trying to help him out by getting info. but looks like i went to the wrong place for that seems like its the typical forum thats more concerned about poking fun and flameing people than actually helping someone.

Have him call the guys at rx7.com and I am positive they will help him out. However, that turbo isnt going to make crazy power and is making the right power for the boost, you would be pushing it to break 400rwhp with that turbo as it is similar to flow as the stock twins.

Either way if he need someone to help out have him give me a call at 865-385-5622 as I am located in Knoxville.

Since the car is right out of the shop, it would be normal to break in the engine. That would mean taking it easy until the engine has whatever minimum number of miles recommended by the builder. Perhaps the shop set it to 7psi intentionally. Generally ZERO boost is preferred for break in.

Anyone with any brains at all would take it back to the shop to have them look at it.

I think you guys are confusing this turbo with the 20g, this is the 25g, its not a small turbo by any means. its larger than the t70 on his dads car, that made more power on less boost. but yeah he's calling them today, and the motor was already supposed to be broke in.

It is a 60mm compressor wheel, those numbers arent out of whack at all, especially if that was on a mustang gyno, dyno dynamics or other similar dynos.

Was it "spitting and sputtering" at idle? Or all the time? Having just come from the shop they should be fine, but it wouldn't hurt to put a new set of NGK 9's in. Call them up, as everyone suggested, they may have limited it, so that a good break in could be done. All we can do is speculate, they can answer your question.

this is a basically usless thread imo. newbie to forum trash talking about a vendor on here not even his car, hasn't even tried to talk to the shop before this b/s. no idea what '' spitting & sputtering means'' i don't know if it's me or not but i wish these guys would try to resolve things abit before running to the computer to try & get sombody to fix it thru the internet. imo

With a street port you should expect it to only pull 15psi vacuum at idle.
