My 93 VR ressurection

As the title states I picked up a 93 VR base w/ leather seats as a roller from a forum member who was going to swap in a LSX or a 2JZ. This is not my first 3rd gen but it has been 3yrs since I last owned one. The car is going go back close to stock. In the end it will be a sequential twin car w/ reliability mods and some where between 320 and 350 rwhp.

I currently have a JDM motor and trans on there way from Tiger Japanese Importers, as well as some other miscellaneous items. I hope to have the car up running and driving her by the first week in August. There will be a few items that I will be selling off like the custom box w/ 2 10's and 2 amps that where in the rear.

Anyways on to the pictures.

You know I would have agreed w/ you but it has actually grown on me. I am not sure what I am going to do there? Its like the CarID kits that is a overlay. The rest I have a plan for. Carpet is really clean, but that floor mat is flithy. Over all the car is very clean.

Oh boy, are you planning on installing the Tiger JDM motor as-is, or are you going to have it disassembled and gone through?

Edit: a search in the feedback section for 'Tiger' yielded this:

Yeah saw that and wasn't excited. My last RE I ordered was from Speed Machine, but I dont think they are around any more. I got Tiger down to the cheapest to my doorstep and was talking to several importers while doing so. He guaranteed me a 35000 mile or less motor, so we will see. I doubt it. Good news is that I am rebuilding it no matter what. I have a short block here but I didn't want to try and find all the soleniods and small stuff for it. At least I should have all the misc. parts associated w/ the motor. I have rebuilt my fare share of these.

I'll keep it updated on how it goes.

I think that's a good way to go. A JDM motor should always be bought as a parts motor - you might get lucky with a mint motor inside, or it might be blown. But, all the parts bolted to the motor is what you're really needing and those are typically just fine. That will save a lot of money and hassle.

Glad to see you fixing one up! Makes me happy to see people working to keep FD's on the road. It's really a shame someone would pull the motor then let the car just sit and rot.

Car does look really good, not sure on the wood dash kit, but hey .

I have ripped the awesome wood grain dash off and my motor arrived. I went to pick it up instead of waiting for them to deliver it to me tomorrow. The motor has been rebuilt previously and seems to have good compression. I will tear it down and check the water seal grooves as I have seen them rust out on J spec motors from sitting. More pics to come.

Every engine from Japan magically has 45km or around 30k miles on it some how. The two customers who sent me J-Spec swaps to install both were blown, one had way more than 30k miles on it and the other looked great with the exception of the one housing and rotor being lossed due to apex seal damage.

Yeah I tore it down today. I would say it has around 60K on it, and has corrosion from sitting outside for a bit. I would say it has a little more than that magical 35K they seem to state. I expect it as I am buying a junk yard motor. That is what people fail to understand. They think all JDM motors are like brand new. Just drop it in. I actually could have done that w/ this one, but there is no way I am risking it.

The good news is that all the necessary parts are good and I have several rebuild kits on hand, so all in all life is good. If all goes as planned I will have her running early next week. But nothing seems to go as planned, so we will see.

Little update on the car. Been driving her since August and she even made the trip down to Goliad (Texas Mile) and back. Anywho here are a couple of recent photos. More to come this winter.
