Mr2.2Liter's Torque Dampner

I received my torque dampner yesterday, got it silver anodized. It was packaged nice and neat and arrived with no damage what so ever. All the items were bubble and peanut wrapped, as well as the nuts/bolts pacakged in indivudual baggies. I had some issues though. Everything was goin smooth until i got towards the end. It seems the ABS gets in the way of the bar. I have pictures to provide...here they are. Also i had to put my stock hood back on, the bar hits the top of my VIS KS style CF hood, so it wouldn't shut. Im selling it anyway but i thought i would just throw that out there.

As you can see...the bar interfers with the ABS Bolt. Im not sure if this kit was made for the FD with ABS or not. But i tried every possible way to get it to fit without any inteferance, it just wouldn't do it. I also used some rubber washers to help keep out the metal to metal contact. I can say that this does improve shifting a good bit. It feels a lot smoother at Higher RPM's when your going from gear to gear. Anybody have luck with installing it OK please reply. Mods please keep this under General so that everybody that purchased one my find it, thanks, Aaron. Overall i say get it, you might be better off if you didn't have ABS, but maybe i just did somethig wrong.

engine dampener was made for RHD cars. most companies provide directions showing where to redrill the triangular/fender wall base to clear the ABS unit.

gIf you have polyurethane motor mounts and a diff brace (I have both), there is no need for the ETB--it just introduces unnecessary vibration into the passenger compartment. I got rid of mine years ago.

Funny thing is...mine didn't vibrate that much at all. Those washers that i used took almost all the vibraton out. I haven't even heard/felt it vibrate. As for the poly mounts and Diff brace, i couldn't afford them right now, i have bigger things to save up for , althought there not on my list right now they will be very soon. This was just a cheap alternative until i can get some cash saved up. Comming soon is a short shifter, poly monts, and diff brace, w/ oil pan brace. Just trying to get everything stable.

Well unless you feel comfortable drilling extra holes that area, or dont have ABS or a RHD FD, then i dunno. I mean i tried "EVERY" possible way to get around it. The only thing i didnt try was moving the ABS system, or sanding down the Bolt that holds down the ABS line, and thats just stupid.

So if you drilled new holes, you'd be able to fit it inbetween those bolts on the ABS system? Or would it still not fit?

I think if you drilled an extra hole a little down the frame, you should be able to fit it. But you then have to make sure all 3 bolts line up, thats the only problem i would have. Theres not much room to work with anyway. If you moved the plate towards the front of the car, then you have the strut tower intefering with the plate. And if you move it back, im not sure if it would be enough to go behind the abs system. But if you look at the picture #3, it looks like you can move it foward a tad, but you'd have to drill 3 new holes, so then there would be six in that area, lol. Even if you do that, im not sure. Then you would have issues fitting the Damnpner to the bracket that attaches to the ground spot on the enigine (see pic #2).

Im sure if you played with it some more and drilled some holes somewhere, you could get it to line up correctly. But i dont have the correct tools for it, so i didn't.

In my opinion, drilling holes in your FD for a bandaid/unnecessary mod is kind of silly

You don't drill the holes into the car, you drill them into the triangular shaped mount.

Here's a pic of my brace after I redrilled the bracket and added some washers to get a comfortable 1/8-1/4 inch distance between the torque brace. Redrilling the bracket was a major pain in the *** (lots of cutting oil and chewed up bits) and turned into a hack job. I'd suggest just spending the extra money on the Gotham Racing torque brace which provides you with a mount designed for an LHD car.

***Before somebody comments on how shitty the washers look it was a temp solution. I had planned on getting a solid wheel spacer which would have looked a little better, but sold the car soon after this mod. Also some have used smaller amounts of spacing, I just wasn't comfortable with anything less.

I have an engine torque brace (not a damper like this) in my car and it introduces no noticeable vibration to the passenger compartment, so I would expect that not to be an issue with a damper like these.

It certainly wasn't with mine and I don't understand why people bring it up, though my car was well sorted and my motor mounts were new.

Also the torque brace pictured above isn't a true "damper" style, but rather a large bushing, according to what I've read on this forum.
