Mouse attack - Protect your FD now
For what it is worth, it is gotten colder and the mice are moving indoors. My ABS stopped working all the sudden and the car is parked in the garage. I popped the hood and there was a huge mouse nest next to the wiring harness, and one of the wires was chewed through!!!
All of you that have stored your FD's may want to think about setting some traps or putting out some bait.

I had an animal chew through one of my silicone vacuum hoses once. I only noticed after taking the UIM off, and I didn't see any nest or anything. But one of the hoses had clearly been chewed through on the outside of a bend.

A friend in Dallas had a rat build a nest in his front bumber. Then it died there.
What a mess when we took off the bumber to clean it out, and it also stunk very badly.

Haha I have a nice little story too. When I picked up my FD. It had a funny smell in it... It still has it unfortunately. The rat(s)/mice which were living in my FD at some point kindly did a little weight reduction and relocation for themselves. One of the first things I did when I got it was tear everything out and clean clean clean. Needless to say I can hear everything on the highway thanks to their little nest..
The pictures show the rest. This is what I found under the bins and around the rear speakers...

I don't have rats, but I've got spiders... When ever the car is parked for a long period, 18+ hours, there will be webs build-up. Sometimes when I am driving one would crawl onto me, it happend so many times I got used to it.

I had a mouse crawl into my tailpipe once. When I started the car it ran terrible and back fired. I had it towed and checked out thinking something blew only to find out it was a mouse. They just ran the car and cooked it out! I stunk to high heaven for a few hours and eventually blewout in crispy critter pieces. Ever since then I sprinkle moth ***** around the tires, in the tail pipe, and in the engine bay. Works like a charm!!

Oh, and yes mothballs are fairly effective. Hikers and hunters often do this when they leave their vehicle parked out in the woods for extended periods of time to keep all kinds of munchy critters away.

That happened to my rodeo in Boston. The squrrils chewed through my cruise control.
A simple and effective solution is to buy a small box of mothballs, and put the container somewhere in the engine bay. It doesn't even have to be an opened box.
They will stay away.

I had a Miata that had a mouse live in it for a few months. It took a lot of work to replace the interior and de-stink the car...

I basically replaced the entire interior, dash, seats, carpet...
