Where is your friend getting his information from??? Motul is one of the most respected and widely recognized names in motorsports. Don't get me wrong, but I want to see proof regarding his claim. "Synthetics" are not bad for your brake lines. Changing to a different type of brake fluid (from DOT 3/4 to DOT 5) can affect your braking, but they should never be bad for your brake lines.

Check out Motul's website:

I haven't heard of such things. Just make sure that you flush the break lines with alcohol so you don't mix the old fluid with the new.

Motul is great. I've used it for years. One of my basic rules of life is not to listen to idiot friends with unfounded opinions.

My guess is that the source of this 5-year-old rumor was based on silicone (DOT 5) brake fluid.

Not sure why you would do that. Alcohol mixes easily with water. ie. it attracts moisture. Using a different color brake fluid would be a better idea.
