And the motor goes POP!!

well, my motor popped last night. I think its a coolant seal or something cause it smokes like a chimney in the lower rpms. it idles like ***, but I was able to drive it 30 some miles to my garage. at least its got a warranty I guess. I am going to pull my spark plugs later today to see if they are bad. but Im pretty sure the motor is gone.

hopefully the warranty company will just ship me a new motor and I can put it in myself, cause I sure as hell am not going to have f'ing mazda do it. thats probly why I had all the problems in the first place.

I'm sorry to hear that. How many miles till pop?

Make sure it's not the vaccum hose of the MAP sensor. It happened to me once and i had the symptoms like yours of a broken seal.

ya, the map sensor was the first thing I checked. but there is hope...some wiring might have come loose from the EGI relay when I relocated it...

hmm...time to find out.

well, just got off the phone with Chris at rotary performance (rx7.com), thats who built my engine...I thought it was a reman...and survey says cracked apex seal...anyways...he wants me to bring the car all the way to texas...I live in chattanooga, TENNESSEE. and he will probly blame it on anything he can find...if I sneezed on the engine, thats why the apex seal is cracked...thats probly what he will say...I am waiting on a call from him, and hopefully I can just ship my motor to him...I cannot really afford to take the whole car down there...

now whether or not it is my fault.

so lets go back a few months. I drove the car home and changed the plugs. the rear leading plug had outrageous carbon build up. engine had 4000 miles on it when I bought the car. ok, no big deal, maybe they are the plugs that came with the new motor...so I changed my plugs after another 2000 miles...same thing, the rear leading plug was awful...while the other 3 plugs were normal for 2k miles. This leads me to think that all this time I had a cracked apex seal this whole time...the car has never really ran right...I have spent my time since purchase trying to make it right. and now the crack worsens...I am not too happy, and will be more unhappy if I am forced to take my car 1000 miles to have it looked at and stay in texas and miss school and work while they look it over and rebuild it. What should I do???

when I first got the car, I got it home and about a week later had to start troubleshooting turbo problems. they turned out to be the original turbos (car had 88k), not rebuilt with the engine like I was told...and were deemed dead by balanced performance motorsports (atlanta, GA) 2+ hours from me. OK, I took the **** turbos off and replaced them with a balanced and blueprinted set that I got from a friend with ~3k on them. great, they work like a charm. it ran ok I guess, but was still killing the rear leading plug...I even started changing them every 1k miles. no good. my car is the first 7 that ive been in, so I didnt really know how a properly running 7 should preform...I do know now that it was never running like it should. sometime around x-mas, I noticed that the car would smoke a little longer on startup than usual (10-20 seconds), and would sometimes start puffing blue smoke at idle...not alot, but some. since then, I think I have experienced every problem I have seen on this forum, of course I fixed them...I think.

so basically, the car never ran right, and as soon as I thought it was...boom.

if anyone is reading this...

well now...the plot thickens.

I just got off the phone with rotary performance (rx7.com). He said that they didnt have a record of my car getting a new engine. WTF! now he did say that the record may not have gotten into their file...but that seems a bit odd, since they had records all the way back to october of 2002. The dealer I bought it from will be back in tomorrow, so I will know more then. but, first the turbos werent new like he said, and now this...?! uhh...I am starting to get sick to my stomach.

Not to ruffle any feathers, but I recomend staying away from rotary performance. I'm not going to post anything more than that on here, but anyone can PM me if they want my opinion on why I say that.

To be honest, if your motor goes and you have a warranty. That warranty won't mean squat if your apex seals goes. It there is a slight detonation that causes your motor to pop. This is not covered under your warranty. Sorry to tell ya....90 percent chance it's not gonna be covered.

Digging this thread up from the grave --- if an engine goes due to detonation / thrown apex seal --- this type of engine failure is not covered by the 1 year warranty?

Nope. Typically engine warranties only cover build defects, not miss use.

My 3 year old reman from Malloy just died a carbon death with 17k miles on it. Apparently using the stock ECU and OMP qualifies as mis-use.
