CA From Mostly Stock to Upgrades..

Hello guys, I was wondering on rwhp if you have a mostly stock or lets say all stock 13b FD how much power did you usually get from Air Intake, Downpipe, Full Racing Beat exhaust while keeping the catalytic converter, Koyo Radiator (no hp gains here lol) (Front Mount or V-Mount Intercooler... still unsure) and last mod is to go with an Apexi Power FC along with the tuning? How much does each individual mod gain in horsepower numbers? As for which intercooler is best if I plan on keeping the stock tubos, but getting to the max 350 rwhp range? Thanks Guys.

on stock fuel system and stock ports your not going to get near that hp level.. with all the bolt on's and a tuned pfc you may hit 300hp to the wheels but I am thinking more like 260-280 rwhp.with water injection you may get a little more.. I would stay with the stock I/C AND ADD A WATER/METH KIT..

Yeah that was my rough guess around 260-280 rwhp. I know it wouldn't be anywhere near 350 rwhp, but that's my goal for future mods. Thanks Jeff P. Is it true going with aftermarker IC can cause some turbo lag? Thanks again. Let me know if the hp power gains are near accurate below:

K&N Air Intakes (Pettit Style with heat shield) est. 10 hp?

Racing Beat Full Exhaust est. 14 hp?

Thanks !!

if you have the extra money go with a vmount, even with water injection i wouldnt want to stick with the stock i/c.. if you get a better fuel pump and maybe 1300cc injectors you can get little over 300.... but it would be very very helpful to have water injection

im at 18psi with water injection

FMIC will add lag to the stock twins since theres more area to travel for the charge air, but an aftermarket SMIC should barely add any lag since the piping length will stay relatively the same.

as for air intake..... just for right now search "even cheaper bastard airbox mod". the stock airbox mod is better than open element intake because the turbos wont be sucking any of the hot engine bay temps.

if you want an intake that adds looks as well, try searching the classified parts section for used M2/SR motorsports airbox. Brand new they are pricey, IIRC SR motorsports still sells them brand new @ $600. So used your looking at anywhere between 200-450 to be honest. But it is a very capable airbox and is compatible with SMIC's since it takes up less space than the stock airbox.

Power comes from increasing boost. The individual mods will add power, but the big power comes from more/denser air. What I've seen recorded on this forum around ~10 PSI with full bolt-on mods was 266 rwhp (stock ECU):

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/266-rwhp-stock-ecu-yee-hah-213367/

A stock healthy FD will dyno around 220 rwhp in stock form so 266 rwhp is a good gain. More boost and ECU tuning will increase to the numbers you are looking to achieve.

CA Thanks Guys!!

Thanks JeffP

Thanks FD3S2005, I will definitely go with a V-Mount now!! Will look into the water injection as well.

Thanks cptpain, I see many FD owners love the even Cheaper Bastard Air Box mod and will look into the M2/SR motorsports airbox setup.

Thaks Mahjik, As I was going to ask about the boost you pretty much answer my question LOL.

Thanks guys, As I've been away for a while and glad this form has great amount of rotary experience ppl.

another tidbit that i noticed from helping my friend install his SR/M2 airbox is that the even cheaper bastard air box mod is based on that airbox since the "cool air intake" scoop is shaped almost exactly the same, but adapted to work with the stock airbox

thats a really good tip
donot add a front mount IC on stock twins
they get laggy for sure
stick with ARC. RE ame, greddy, blitz or anyother smic.. and they work the best with stock twins .. unless u wana go with v mount which is an expensive way

It looks like we have very similar goals. I would stick with an aftermarket SMIC and also add an HKS twin power. I have 2 for sale!

If you are looking for reliability for the least amount of money, I would go with water/meth along with the regular reliability mods.

I like Pettit's base performance package, they are claiming a 60hp gain without changing the ECU. I have been researching Pettit quite a bit and like what I have found so far, hardest part will be to go with the Pettit ECU or Power FC.

power FC would be better imo, also pettit does have really good stuff, but they up charge the **** out of their items.. so unless you want to spend alot of money, check other places first.

CA Thanks Again Guys!!

Nice to hear your opinions glad to hear them all good tips as I'm certain I'll go with a V-Mount I.C. instead and how much for you HKS twin power Supernaut? or you can PM me Thanks. As for the ECU I stand strong to go with Apex'i Power FC since most of you guys have proven you get the most out of it! As of now I have that stock looking plastic piping with 3 K&N Air Filters with the heat shield (looks pretty stock though).

I meant I had smics for sale haha. Twin powers go for 300 plus and make sure you get the right harness as well. Vmounts are great man but they require alot more work to install and it's hard to find a good kit that fits right. Just keep that in mind and don't cheap out on the kit.

With the mods you want, you should get around 290ish rwhp with a healthy engine. And a pfc tuned to run 12lbs of boost. That's what I have. btw I have a pf smic and kept my main cat.
