more questions....

can a DP be installed w/o a lift? I am sure it can, but is it really feasable w/o destroying your back?
does SS make a better material for DPs? - and if so is it because of corrosion or temp qualities?
anyone used the RX7 store's SS DP? - how does it compare with the Pettit? and for that matter, how does the Pettit compare with the HKS? or all they just about all the same. cause the money difference between the various brands isn't really all that much, it is most important for me to get one that installs cleanly....
should both the inside and the outside of the DP be coated by Jet Hot or similar?
just how difficult is the DP installation? I consider myself a marginal mechanic, but far from expert... is it more complicated then insert tab A into slot B?

again, thanks all for the answers... they are much appreciated
and yes, I did a search and there were almost 800 hits on down pipe... I looked through many, but didn't find the answers I was looking for?

Just spend the money to get the SS. Why take a chance that it will corrode just to save $50. SS is also lighter and you will not need to get it ceramic-coated (Jet-hot). Also, avoid the HKS, it has a crimp for RHD cars that the others (Pettit, M2, Bonez) don't.

As far as installation goes, you don't need a lift. I believe the M2 and Pettit pipes do not require you to remove the studs -- very important for ease of install. I'm not sure about the Bonez because it was on my car when I bought it.

Oh, don't forget to order a new gasket for the downpipe/main cat junction. You could also get a new gasket for the turbo/downpipe junction but they are about $50 and are usually ok.
