moo relief?
moo relief?
I recently removed my air box and added an open intake. The moo from the ACV return hose is driving me crazy!
Those with aftermarket intakes (Apexi etc) that provide a nipple for that hose, does the intake effectively quiet the moo? If so, does the intake baffle it somehow or does the hose just dump into the intake stream?
And those who have effectively quieted it themselves, please share your technique? I have a small lawnmower muffler and the hose packed with steel wool, which works somewhat, but it still annoys me at low rpm...
Yes, I know I can disconnect the air pump, but I still have a cat that I would like to keep flowing...

I think you have done about all you can do.
Before I removed my ACV, I used one of those HELP! section rubber caps and just drilled out 4 small holes to allow some air to escape.
You could also run that hose down to the bottom, below the engine, so it would vent down there. That might work as well.

i should know this but i dotn...is that moo you ar refering to a sound that comes when u are giving it just enough throttle to stay around 0psi. I have this wierd vibration/moo noise that occurs right at this point only...going from vacuum to boost.
One other trick - go to the junkyard and find any 2nd gen RX-7. Under the passenger side headlight is a plastic canister with rubber hose going in and out - that's the air pump silencer for a 2nd gen. You can probably get the rubber hose running to it as well. Get that, find a home for it, and plumb it in - that will kill the moo bigtime.

my blitz intake came with some metal plugs with holes in em. kinda sounds like what mahjik did with the rubber plug. I had it both ways, never noticed that much of a difference.
on the catalytic thing. I am of the opinion that the cat doesn't really need the airpump(been running mine 6months no problem), but there are plenty of people that are firm believers in airating their cats.

There are silencers. I have one I need to attach. Also, look at this:
This is an entire Pettit intake. If you look at the pipe on the top, it has 2 black silencers in it.

Yup.....somewhat annoying.Just kinda sounds ghetto. But i'll deal with the sound for more performance.
I've got most of a pettit intake. I could probabily part with hose with the two black peices in it.
