monster gas user...

man...this sucks i'm finding my self to filling the gas more than once a week...its so expensive around here also...im probably running a little rich, but i'd have no idea because my stock o2 sensor is crap anyway, is this common in most FD's? or is it just me that im finding my self filling gas a lot...(i don't drive the car that much, maybe 10 miles at most a day? id unno)

If you are really driving only 10 miles a day which would be 70 miles a week and filling the tank up more than once a week, then something is very wrong. That converts to less than 4 mpg.

i thought when buying an rx7 reliability rule number one was as follows...
1)buy a beater, preferably a honda that gets really good gas milage and needs absolutly NO MAITNANCE
or a bike. i have a 954rr and it gets about 34mpg. roughly 3 times better than my rx7

I get probably between 18-20 mpg on average, about 50/50 city/highway.

I have a 1991 CRX Si that gets 35 mpg .

What kind of mileage are you getting? Anything under 12 is very abnormal. Are your plugs shot? Also, when I installed my power fc and ran the base maps, my mileage went up by around 50 per tank.

goodfellas, i get first dibs on your crx okay...damnit you are in texas. for real cheap ill pick it up. texas is only 4 inches on a map right. i also have a 1990 crx si that i use as my autoX car and soon track car. its all set up and the motor, well it isnt exactly stock. lets just say that i can run lightly modded rx7 times in the 1/4 with it(high 12's). ahh honda, my first racing love. ahh mazda, the expensive racing love
i still get first dibs right

All you ricer want-a-be's haha j/k

I didnt buy my RX7 for fuel economy thats for sure but I've never got less than 13mpg and I consistantly drive the hell out of my car. Thats mostly city driving but even when I do drive highway it might as well be city cause I'm going 90+ all the time with wot spurts up to the top of 4th gear.

One time I tried to drive real conservative like people with Hondas for a full tank of gas but couldnt do it. 30 minutes after filling up I was wot thru 3 gears getting on the interstate lol

The ONLY time I get get less than 14mpg is on the RACE TRACK - LOTS of Boost ALL THE TIME on a Road Course can get me in to single digit (9mpg) territory.

Oh and a Busted Apex seal will cost you 3-4 mpg in town also

I'm driving a Honda Insight for my 100/day commute. I only have to fill up once a week. Because it so lightweight, its a suprisingly fun car. Now, only if my FD was 1880 lbs.

When I drive my FD to work I blow 1/2 tank a day. I figure that a good chunk of my work day is paying for the gas just get there. At least I can write it off.

The worst I've ever gotten was *four* mpg after a day at Motorsport Ranch. I've never driven on a jacked up apex seal long enough to determine gas mileage.....good way to ruin a rotor housing. you know better, Max

I have to say my motor has done real well on gas mileage since having it rebuilt at Rotorsports Racing. I had some airpump issues that once I got straightened out led to getting significantly better mileage. When the engine was out I had it streetported so I think that the MPG's I am getting are supurb. I average around 19 MPG, and that is a mixture of city and highway. An average day is a 20 miles each direction to work and about 15 miles of it is highway and the other 5 is city stop and go here in Charlotte, NC.

I have gotten 25 MPG on my way back to DE where I ran the car on the highway for 8 hours straight. (This is the best time to have your car inspected. I know that I drove 8 hours and straight into the inspection lanes in DE and passed with flying colors. It hardly registered on the CO and the Hydrocarbon scales. I scared the crap out of the guy when he was sound testing my car, because he had me hold it at 3k for a second to check it and when he said I was done I backed off the throttle quickly and it popped incredibly loud and made the guy jump about a foot off the ground.)

well like i said, my honda is built. it running a b18c5 engine and tranny with major bolt ons. it fast and economical. still gets about 29-32mpg. as for my rx7, hell yes it a fun driving car. i dont care about the miles on that. actually i dont care about miles to gallon at all, just keep track to see how the car is running. if it gets real shitty then i know something must be off.

My MPG sucks right now, about 160-170 miles per tank. I used to get 200-220 before my new engine/streetport.
I used 1/2 tank in 20 minutes at Laguna Seca! I was 6-8Krpm the whole time though

Switch your motor oil to RP 20W50 and you will see a HUGE increase in miles per tank. Well at least that's what happened to mine when I switched, and before that I was getting just over 200miles/tank, and my car runs pretty rich too. Now I can easily get over 250miles/tank with A/C and semi-hard driving every day.

Um, 5w20?? I've never even heard of that weight before. It's *way* too thin......I would switch pronto to 20w50, or 10w30 if you don't want to go to thin.....

5w20 is what ford reccomends for their cars. its all economical since a thinner oil means less friction and more mpg. i didnt hear of it either till i started working at kragens. i use mobil 1 15w50 all year long. it doesnt get that cold in CA, plus the turbos get nice and hot so why does the other weather really matter. i would rather lose a few ponies, mpg and have something that wont break down as our nuclear reactors tear our engine oil apart. i have heard not to go too thick though, with the reason being that the thick oil still needs to travel through the OMP lines and oil injectors.
