Modifying stock bumper - need advice

Hi fellas,

I recently came upon this image of a modified stock bumper that has an enlarged front air opening and I kinda like it...

However my stock bumper is in great shape and I would not dare to touch it in anyway. But luckily I came upon this bumper in the UK for 20gbp (~$30) + another $30 for shipping, which is pretty good. The bumper is a bit beaten up but its perfect for this project. And if I don't like the end result I can always go back and put my original one back on.

So since I'm 5000 miles away from my FD and since I have never taken the bumper off, I have no idea what else I have to modify or what problems I'll run into.

I'm looking for any advice or suggestions. Will I have to modify the rebar? If yes, what would be the best way to do this?

Only reason you may need to modify the rebar is if you could see some of it showing through your enlarged opening and you didnt like it

in regards to actually cutting the bumper up. I would mark it out, then cut it out with an angle grinder with thin diameter disc. Then tidy up the edged with files / sandpaper to your liking then paint.

Cant be too hard

Thanks!

I have a friend who does car bodywork and I showed him this, he said he could do it no problem. As long as I show him/or draw out exactly how large I want the opening to be.

I will try to make the opening slightly smaller than in the above image, so the top line of the opening does not go above the bottom lines of the turn signals, if that makes any sense.

I will use photoshop to come up with a final design

When modifying a bumper I use a dremel with a cutoff wheel. Makes nice clean cuts.

I actually kind of like this look, but what makes it look cheap is that the bumper no longer has a molded opening like stock. It will never quite look stock but like someone cut up their bumper.

I too use a dremel

If you don't want to cut it, there's this option...
