Bosch Premium 3300. It's the same thing, only $5 cheaper.

How's this? What makes it the same? The core... How did you find out about this? Dd you cut open the cores? Not that I'm doubting you, I just like to know the facts about this type of stuff so I can see it myself!

Study the packaging and filtration claims of both very carefully. I could find no differences whatsoever. Just the brand on the box and the price. Peek in at the filter itself and they look identical. Although it's not proof, it was good enough for me. If I bought one of each to cut them open I'd negate my savings

Well, after a few oil changes and piece of mind you would be on track again or more accepting of paying the higher price

The Bosch and Mobil are both made by same factory but the Mobil 1 has a more restrictive filter media. It filters better but has a greater pressure drop across the media.

I personally don't care for either the Bosch or Mobil because of their fairly restrictive filter media.

If you want a quality filter, try a NAPA gold.

The Bosch Premium filter says:
"up to 98% for single-pass*"
where "*Single Pass Particle Retention performed according to the SAE test proc. HS-806, using a 10-20 micro glass bead contaminant on Bosch Prem. filter #3500."

I have a more-recently bought Bosch Premium, which now says:
"Removes 98% of engine oil impurities*" but there is no explanation of the * anymore.

The Mobil 1 lclaims: "98% single-pass particle filtration at 10 to 20 microns, and multiple-pass efficiency of 95% (vs. 80% for the average filter)." I recall looking up the test number and it was the same thing: SAE HS-806. I don't have a Mobil 1 filter box in front of me to verify.

Mobil 1 Extended Performance filters (a new product) appear to be a little different. They claim "Mobil 1 Extended Performance Oil Filters contain synthetic fibers instead of the typical cellulose filter media. With a 99.2 percent efficiency rating (under SAE J1858 Multi-Pass Efficiency Test)" How the J1858 and HS-806 compare I have no idea.

For certain, the older ones were the same thing. I'm tempted to believe they still are, but the printing on the box changed a bit. Maybe they decided consumers like me were finding out, I dunno. I guess if I was a nerd (more than I'm being already) I'd call Bosch and find out if the * still means the same thing - but I actually have my limits. Clearly, they're both good filters. It's up to you to decide if there is a worthwhile difference.

What is the verification of these claims

The SAE J1858 test is a newer standard than the HS806, both a single and mulit pass tests but 1858 measures efficiency by measuring both weight of trapped particles and sampling of particle count both upstream and down stream of filter, (weight /# particles ~ ave particle size) 806 weight only. Typical figures would be lower from test 1858 than from 806 for the same filter
