mitsubishi starter in my fd???

anyone have any idea why/how a mitsubishi starter is in my car? the serial number is M001T7 and has a mitsubishi little emblems all over it. did anyone ever hear of this before? in anycase, my starter is fked and ill have to order a new one, shitty thing is that im in hawaii and it will take a week to get here. from checkers, it will cost me 180 bucks, is this right? anyone got any other places to get this from for cheaper?

Mitsubishi supplied parts Mazda when the car was manufactured. I have found lots of Mitsubishi symbols in my engine bay.

Mitsubishi makes a lot of odd things, from pianos to parts for other japanese cars.

idk, it just seemed weird also because it does not look like a starter which is illustrated in the service manual i have (the thick green book)

Yeah, the new starter I put on was a Mitsubishi...and mine was $173.26 from ADVANCE AUTO PARTS, so you are right in the ball park.



Mazda buys parts from ALL OVER Japan for their cars, as do most other car companies. Look at the water pump...it is built by KUBOTA.
When I open the hood of my Volvo, half the stuff is built in Germany....it is just global supply.

ahhh i think that the starter illustrated in the manual is for an automatic tranny fd. perhpas thats why it does not look the same.

did anyone happen to know if the starter solonoid off an auto could fit on to a manual?

anyone know if any other starter solonoid will fit on a fd?
