Missing flywheel dowel pins

Hi guys, im missing 2 out of the 3 dowel pins on my centerforce flywheel. The research ive done has conflicting views on if I will need them or not. The flywheel is back on he block and ready to be put back in the car and rather not waste time installing the pins if its not necessary. What do guys think?

I am sitting here messing with my feed flywheel and clutch, and it would seem that it shouldn't NEED all three if the 2 remaining are not sloppy and the pressure plate is a tight fit. however, that third one really makes you have everything lined up perfect.

Will it work if the 2 remaining pins are still precise? I would say yes with a slight
Will it work better with all 3? Yes.

I've once installed a clutch plate without it clocked on the dowels and ran it for a year. I probably shouldn't have done that but it worked.

Technically speaking these dowel pins are for positioning only. The bolts handle the torque.

But I'd still get myself a dowel pin. It's the clutch, and it's a $2 piece of metal.

Couldn't agree more. They are purely for initial placement of the pressure plate to the flywheel. But it's simple to buy one and tap them in. I've actually had some stick in the bore of a pressure plate and get pulled out on removal...

Im missing "2 out of the 3" not just 1. The problem is I already bolted up the flywheel and returned the expensive *** socket. It wasnt til now did I realize they were missing or I would have simply done it before installation.

If you only have 1 of 3 you definitely need to get them.

The big socket is for attaching the flywheel to the e-shaft. You should not need it to insert dowel pins and place the clutch plate.

hehe I know the big socket is for the flywheel nut, but I was thinking that if you were banging the dowels on the flywheel when it was bolted on it could possibly damage something. what do you think?

sounds good mono, ill just tap em in. you think a dead blow hammer would be best? also would the centerforce flywheel use the stock diameter pins? if so where would be the best place to buy them?

i would just a small hammer. dead blows are a bit overkill for a 3/8ths pin lol

Mazdatrix has them for $1.72, Ray at Malloy will be less usually. http://mazdatrix.com/flywheel.htm

Just tap them in lightly, is you smash them with a hammer you will peen them over, making it difficult to install the pressure plate.
