Miss / clicking sound

I am trying to sort a few things out on my car before I schedule a tuning session at Banzai in the near future. I am having an issue were the car will miss out under moderate and heavy acceleration that's accompanied by a clicking sound from the engine bay. I currently have a Power FC (with the factory tune it came with), a HKS twin power, new plugs and wires on my car. I had the injectors cleaned and flow tested when I rebuilt the engine about 2k miles ago. I deleted the OMP and run 1-1.5oz per gallon of premix and have an HKS downpipes, catless mid pipe and a tanabe medallion exhaust. I didn't port anything other than the waste gate on the stock twins when I had the engine apart.

The car idles well and starts rights up whether the engine is hot or cold. I'm not sure if I could possibly have a bad coil pack or an injector that's not working properly. I have been reading up on upgrading the secondary fuel rail and injectors, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. I have also tossed around the idea of upgrading the coil packs withe kit from sakebomb as well. Just wanted to get some opinions on what might be going on; any advice will be greatly appreciated.

That's definitely odd. Could it be a spark plug wire arcing? How old are your plug wires? What brand?

A bad plug wire can arc energy to a nearby ground point - basically you're getting a mini lightning bolt in the engine bay. If you have good wires (I recommend the stock style NGK wires, $25 or so for a set and they work/perform excellent) you typically don't have to worry about it.

For what you have you are good with your stock coils and Twinpower.

Only other thing could be a relay clicking, but they are typically quiet enough that I doubt you could hear it under load.

Dale, thank you for the response. The plug wires are brand new ngk’s and I have brand new set of four ngk BUR9EQP’s. I did forget to mention that I upgraded the fuel pump with a walbro 255 unit from banzai and the fuel pump harness from SBG, but I was have having the issues prior to installing these items.

Is it possible you are actually getting some detonation? How much boost are you running?

To be honest I have no idea. I bought a new Power FC, installed by following the instructions and have never messed with any of the settings. Gauges are the next thing on the list to buy and install.

With his modifications that's entirely possible. Also possible is a slight exhaust leak which can make a "clicking" sound.

If it is detonation, is there I anything that I can do to fix it? Are larger secondaries needed?

Usually the "quick-fix" is a restrictor somewhere in the exhaust system to lower the boost level. Many threads on this subject especially with a catless midpipe. Try searching.

Really the fix is the tune and you have that lined up at Banzai in the near future. Really, just drive the car easy until you get it to them and let them check everything out.

Sounds like a plan! I need to schedule it sooner than later and hope that it fixes the issue. I appreciate everyone’s suggestions and hopefully nothing major pops up when I go up for the tune.
