With blown tubos? That is considered major work. It will lower the blue book value. Check the Kelly Blue Book.

blown turbos is not a lot of work, it's about 4-6 hrs and maybe $300 and change

If the turbos are fried, then it lowers the value. I've never had to have that kind of work done, so I didn't know.

A turbo rebuild (from a reputable shop) will run you $700-1000 (without labor of removing and re-installing the turbos).

wonder if the engine is toast too. 75k miles on it? I'd be skeptical of how much life is left in it if the dude managed to blow the turbos already. mine have 120k miles on them and they are still boosting fine, no oil leaks, just nice...

I agree with Alberto---I'd look it over with an ultra-fine tooth comb!!!...have a reliable good mechanic familiar with rotary engines check it out carefully for you. It may cost a few bucks but it may very well be worth it!
As for KBB--it's an Rx-7, in my book KBB doesn't really apply. IMO. Judge it based on the condition of the vehicle, affordability, and addiction factor. The value of the vehicle is worth what one is willing to pay on a given day.

yup 10k is a bit high. The engine may have little life on it.

How does it idle?

When my turbos needed replacing the car ran fine other than some serious lack of boost (cracked housing).

If that's what he wants, that's what he wants. You have to decide if that's the car you want or not.

Right now, you really don't know what problems the car may or may not have. The turbo problem could be an actual blown turbo, blown vacuum lines, soleniod failure, etc...

If you are interested in the car, at least take it to get a compression test done. If the paint and interior are in good shape, $10k isn't bad even if the engine or turbos have just about had it. Just keep in mind that you may have to put $4-5k (and a lot of elbow grease) into the car.

I think the other question you have to ask is "How many of these cars are available to be purchased within a reasonable distance from your house?" And of those, what is their condition and price.

If it is what you want, and there are no others around, and you are willing to take the chance that you might have to lay out some real money to bring it to spec (like all of us who have purchased these cars without a warrentee), then $10K might be a great price.
