Question Midpipe question?

Ok, I want to go ahead and get a midpipe and eliminate the airpump since I no longer have to pass emissions. My question is, what do I need to do to prep for a midpipe installation besides porting the wastegate to control boost? I know I need blockoff plates so where do I go about getting them and which ones do I need? Will I need a boost controller to further control boost?

Thanks

The rx-7 store sells the block off plates. You can buy them there. Or you could just make them with a 1/8 to 1/4 inch piece of aluminum and a saw.

Do get a good boost controller. Electrical. It will help.

Florent,

ttpowerd want to take off his catalytic converter and install a midpipe. The airpump in the engine bay is connected to it. He wants to take that off as well. He will need a block off plate to cover the fresh air passage going to the catalytic converter.

Are you going to take off your EGR valve as well? You don't have to block it off. Just get a rubber cap for it. You need a pic? I just got a digi-cam and have been DYING to use it for something like this

What I am looking into now:
boost controller ~$335
BOP ~$125
Midpipe ~$200
pulleys ~$125
and port the wastegate ~??? (I plan on taking them off and getting them ported at an rx7 specialist. What does this typically run?)

Here's the plug I'm talking about. I'm using it on my "Y" pipes because I have a Greddy Type R BOV on my IC piping.

This is the piece you will need to Block off:

This is where it originally was:

The reason I asked if you plan on blocking off your EGR is because if you do, you won't have to worry about blocking this one off, just the one running to the Catalytic converter itself. When you install your midpipe, you'd have to get underneath anyways, and unattach that pipe, so you could put the plug there too.

You'll need 1 IF you block off your EGR. If you don't, you'll need 2. The one in the Pic and the one underneath...

and I can just cap those with some rubber plugs? I have one that I used on my apexi intake when I disconnected the bov. Ok, in simple man's terms the pipe that is connected to the airpump by means of a 3-4 inch hose that wraps around the y-pipe is the one I need to plug? If I plug this one is there another one that I need to plug as well? I am sorry for all the questions, I just want to make sure I do this right so I don't blow my 10k mile motor I don't need to worry about the AWS or anything else, just blocking off the hose that goes to the cat? What is the EGR, where is it located, and what are the benefits/downsides of blocking it off?

ah...you won't blow your motor...you just won't have boost.

Plug up the one underneath and the other one...the one you described in the first couple sentences and you'll be fine.

EGR is underneath the UIM. It's located on the LIM. If you go 1600cc injectors, you'll need to replace this because it gets in the way.

not necessarily but it does no good to have it on anymore. You can take it off or just unplug the electrical relay that is connected to it and keep it on the car. Either way will work. Benefits of taking it off: I can fit my intercooler on finally, loose 9lbs in weight, and whatever 'little' loss there is in the pulley system (which is not much if any at all). Most people take it off so they can fit a single turbo on there

Will taking the airpump off throw an Engine Code? Because I have a 94 Non-Cali. 5 speed. It throws a code when I disconnect the EGR, I know I have to add a resistor to it but I'll never get how to do it so I probably will NEVER do it. So if this is true will the air pump removel throw an ECU code?

I've never had a stock ECU so I wouldn't know. I first had a knightsports ECU, but I never got any error codes. My PFC sure as hell doesn't have any error codes.

Well I have an M2 stage 3 ready to put in anytime I want to. Will this throw an EGR code or will the air pump throw a code on the M2 stage 3I ment.

Cant you just leave the hose to the cat alone. I am getting a midpipe, I was just going to disconnect the hose to cat and let it be. Just let the airpump pump air. No problem w/ that, right?

you need to port the wastegate otherwise you will get boost creep and spikes. That = blown motor
