Midpipe/downpipe Support

A-Spec 40R Single turbo downpipe running into an RX7 Store resonating midpipe. I disassembled the stock system so long ago I don't remember if there was a hanger supporting this area. I have a U-shaped bracket leftover from the stock system. Is this intended to support the area near the downpipe/midpipe junction? If so where does it attach?

Searched and went through the shop manual with no success.

There is a support bracket toward the end of the mid pipe. There is typically nothing on the down pipe.

I don't remember ever seeing a U shaped bracket on the FD exhaust.

When you say end of the midpipe, do you mean toward the exhaust side or the downpipe side? Is there supposed to be a support near the downpipe junction or does the midpipe just hang from the downpipe? It is solid but I wanted to make sure.

Look under your car where the old exhaust was . Look for an old hanger attached to the car or fresh bolt holes that match up with your leftover hanger

That's what I have been trying to do. Only when nothing seemed to line up did I post question.

Anybody who has actually installed a single turbo care to comment?

Does the midpipe just hang from the downpipe or is there supposed to be a support hanger in the front (engine end)?

Well I have never installed a single turbo in a "RX 7" . But I still put my car on the lift just to help you out . My RX 7 with Race Beat exhaust ,down pipe, and mid pipe DO NOT HAVE ANY HANGERS UNTIL AFTER THE CATS. I hope this is not a U shaped exhaust clamp you r talking about.

The original precat was bolted to the tranny right before the precat/cat connection. You should be able to see 2 threaded holes lined up vertically on the exhaust-side of the tranny. When I replaced my precat with the pettit downpipe I could not use the original hanger so I made my own out of an exhaust clamp and scrap metal & then used one of the threaded holes to fasten the hanger to the side of the tranny. The clamp goes around my downpipe, not my cat. The connection was pretty solid without the hanger but I think it's better with it. Since the engine & tranny move together and with the downpipe bolted to the engine means you are better off attaching the downpipe/cat to the tranny, not the body, just like Mazda did with the original precat.-bill
