Metering Oil Pump ?

Hi All, I have a 93 FD touring. The check engine light came on this morning & I when I accessed the code it told me that it was something called the metering oil pump position sensor. What is that & where is it located? Is it an easy fix?

Sorry to hear that.

I had the exact same situation: codes 26 and 27... and the pump fried my ECU too. I'm not an expert, but I've been learning from my experience.

As far as I know, the sensor is a part of the pump itself, so if it's bad... the pump is bad.

First try to reset your computer by disconnecting the battery, and see if you get the code again. If the code pops up again, run the diagnostic on the MOP wiring harness (with an ohm/volt meter) as outlined in the factory service manual (which is available online).

Worse case scenario, you may have to replace your MOP - which is an expensive proposition because it's buried deep below and between the turbos and engine. You may find a decent used pump for a few hundred, but most shops are asking about $900 to install it.

I'm actually just now getting help from a local club member to install a used MOP in my car.

I've got a couple of them for sale. $250 ea. List price is around $1400.

Install isn't that bad. Remove airbox, IC and battery for some room. MOP is on the pass side of the motor, remove the bolts that hold it on and undo the lines. Becareful with the lines, they are cheap but installation requires a lot of work to get to the other end.
The wiring wraps around the front of the motor but it isn't too bad to install at all.
